Goodes and Davis to miss round 1?

States that Roos is worried about picking too many underdone players in the first round match and thus not sure whether Goodes and/or Davis will get a guernsey.

Although the article doesn't mention it, I suspect that this puts pay to any lingering hopes that Crouch might have of continuing his unbroken streak.

It must also put Dempster in the box seat to make a round 1 debut.

Fair enough from Roos. If they are too underdone, then we should definately not play them no matter who they are and should not be risked espeically only being in rd 1.

We don't want a repeat of what Rocket did by playing ALOT of underdone senior players which led to alot of form slumps.

Would I be wrong in suggesting that MOL gets preferential treatment, or is he just super essential so you can play him underdone. It also seems he doesn't get risked if he's sore yet others do.

By which I mean, of course, that Roosey treats Micky exactly how 98% of us would if we were in his shoes. His stance is not controversial at all. The only surprising thing is that he is so candid about admitting the situation.

I wouldn't say your wrong in suggesting it as your pretty much right, but I think the fact Magic plays out of the goalsquare and can play at 75% and be effective plays a major role, where as Goodes and Davis aren't able to do the same and are needed elsewhere where fitness is needed more than the goalsquare.

The thing about MOL is that when he is very under done it is a waste of time having him out there. He needs a couple under his belt before he produces, and he is now a year older. Doesn't get any easier as the years roll by.

I reckon a 75% Goodes will give more value that a 75% MOL.

A 75% Goodes didnt give us that much last year. But then again, Im comparing that to his Brownlow year.

MOL's been playing at less than 100% for a few seasons now and is still producing enough for coach Roos to publicly declare that he is going to play round 1 ahead of both Goodes and Davis.

But like many comparisons made on this board, how do you value each players contribution to say if 75% output from one player is more valuable that 75% from another? Goodes plays a completely different role to MOL.

My point was that when MOL is bad he is very bad, and that seems only when is under done like he will be in R1. I just hope he is not an embarrassment in R1. Then again there is a chance what Roos is saying is utter garbage and a ploy. As Robert Shaw said recently, top players only need a couple of hitouts to get to near top form.

Micky generally plays a shocker first up. In 2003 he missed the first 3 games, then couldn't get near it against Hawthorn in his first hit-out. Then he bounced back the next week, helping us get over the dees which got our season rolling.
