If we win next week, that will be a bonus.
Vicky Pollard: Oh my god I so can't believe you just said that this is like the time I threw Anita's nokia in the canal as a joke and she's like you have well got to buy me another one and I'm like get over it and then Paul came over who's adopted anyway and started saying that I fancy Mark Bennett but oh my god just because I have sex with someone doesn't mean I fancy them.

Depressing game. I rode my motorcycle down so I at least got to enjoy the ride. It was the worst display by the Swans that I've witnessed since the Tigers game last year. We capitulated then, too.

I've been surprised to watch how poorly so many teams start the season. We played badly last week (just poor ball skills) but it didn't matter against the hapless Hawks. The Roos are marginally better and it showed. They played the Swans dour possession and man-up game and we couldn't counter it.

Already we're talking about replacing Roos! Even Leigh Matthews couldn't win with a team exhibiting the skills on display yesterday. But we all know the Swans can play better than this so rebuilding talk is just dumb. Next week we'll find out if we are genuine finals contenders - hard to imagine the turnaround that would suggest we are. But with the Swans, stranger things have happened.

If we did beat the Lions it'd be even more frustrating. Winning the hard ones and losing the easy ones (Tigers, Roos) is a weird form of mediocrity. If we beat the Lions, we'd still only be 2:1, the same as if we'd limped home against the Roos and got thrashed by the Lions.

It's a long season and we are better off than many teams re injury list. But who cares unless the team plays to its abilities? Despite what the Melbourne media and Paul Roos say, we do have a team of good footballers. But they have to show a lot more commitment than we have seen so far this year.

        swannies vs kangas

        Good morning fellow Swans sufferers,

Well, last night we were up to our bad old tricks, 3 too many backline/midfield handballs, no long kicks to the forward line, and perhaps we saw the reall Jolly.

If not for Williams, Dancing Leo Barry, the Badness Barry Hall, McVeigh and Kirk we would have got flogged by a lot more.

Archer double teamed Hall all night, leaving O'Keefe free, but where was he???

Its the Swans of old that played yesterday, boring, uninspiring football, that brought back embarrassing memories of the St Kilda draw 3-4 years ago at Telstra Dome, which will go down as the worst game of all time.

We were found out, and unless the game plan changes dramatically, we will get thumped this week, and then we have Adelaide, and then Melbourne games to try to atone. It is a distinct possibility that after 5 rounds we could be 1-4.

What really showed up in this game was the lack of real leadership, and the ability for our leaders (Maxfield) to stand up when it counted.

Anyway, there is always next week, and at least it can't get any worse, can it?

        Adios for now

Just a few things that I noticed:

          - Maxfield was just woeful! There is no other word for it!
          - It appeared (I was watching on TV) that there was either no leading or poor leading inside the forward 50 resulting in no space being made for other players to lead into.
          - There where no decent marks taken inside forward 50 all game! This was due to the above point as well as some very poor delivery and running in the midfield.
          - The midfield didnt get on top - too many turnovers and poor decision making i.e poor handballs and handballing 'for the sake of handballing'
          - I dont understand why we wanted to 'flood' all game
          - What really disappointed me was we lost in such a poor fashion! If we run hard all game and it takes a great team on the day to beat us then I can take that - but it appeared that in the 4th Quater every one stopped running! I found that so disappointing!
          - Every one had a poor game in my opinion - improvement in all areas for next week is needed otherwise we are going to get smashed around by Brisbane.
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

If this isn't rectified soon, we will never be a team of champions nor a champion team under the current coaching regime.
The good will is running out, and players disbeliefe and faith, can only be suspended for so long.
Players need to be in awe of there coaches other wise they grow wayward.

the swans did run hard for the first 3 quarters. Their skills were poor, but they were running hard as usual.

Problem is that in hot weather like that, our gameplan of high possessions and hard running is going to get harder and harder to continue as the day goes on. By the final quarter the swans were absolutely stuffed.

Simple answer - get a new gameplan that doesnt always require short handballs in traffic and little chip kicks for keepings off. It is too draining on the players' energy levels.

                I'll agree with that Sharpie!

I just hope this 'new gameplan' which may or maynot come about is far more entertaining!

i agree with you, i just think that we have too many midfielder who dont have the confidence to use that game plan. Which forces hall to go down the ground and help and means we lose a valuable forward target!

I think the swans played rubbish football all day and paid the price, if anything it was almost pleasing we were in front for so long, playing pretty ordinary footy! Hopefully they dont repeat it and it wont matter, im backing them to fix it by next week.

They seemed bored in stages (sounds stupid i guess) but they looked like they were on a tour of parliament house and wanted to go home

I reckon if the Swans could do something original, we might get an original thought, however if they do the same thing year after year, we'll get the same comments...
