Problem is, of course, that he ain't doing it at the moment.

Not sure that moving him up the ground makes sense right now - he would actually have to work harder to make contests there, rather than in the back line where the contests come to him and he needs to work when he's in them. If it were just the defensive part of his game that was a problem then the move might be productive but there's something more fundamental missing at the moment.
I disagree. I don't think he will develop the defensive nous we need, hence we are down one backman.

He may be able to run the ball out of defence, but then we still need to get it past half way and into F50. This is where we struggle.

Playing on a wing he should still be able to move into D50 to get the ball and run it out, but he also has the option of being in the middle and getting the ball from other defensive rebounders and running it into the forward line.

Adelaide are no push-overs, but they simply had to wait for the errors to come from our Hb and FB line to score gimme goals.

Tagdh should NOT be doing the kick ins. he takes an age and often ends up chipping it to a player not in a better position than him. Who often then handpasses or kicks under pressure, meaning heart-attacks all around.

I though Roos had learnt from the mistakes Eade made by play Tagdh as a back pocket player. He hasn't it seems. Kennelly is a free-running player who likes to set up attacking forays with his pace. He loves a goal and the freedom to express himself. Deep in defence where he has to not only worry about marking up his man, but is taking a massive risk in paying on at all costs, or just merely chipping or handballing the ball around.

I was thinking that he should be dropped. But no, I thought he should be played no further back than the wing.

If Roos cannot work that out by now, he should no longer be coaching this football team. I for one am FED up with players being played out of position. It is murdering MY gteam's chances each week.

Hear hear. Although I can understand (and at times appreciate) Roosy's style of coaching, the fact of the matter remains that at times there is clearly a lack of discipline...and when there is, that player needs to be told.

Drag him, put him on the blower and give him a good ol' fashioned bollocking! Otherwise, drop him.

Tadhg's efforts of late have bordered on unacceptable (call me harsh), and as you said he may not be cut out for a role in defence - he's had a number of pretty poor disposals which have been intercepted by opposition players, and his options when kicking in can be coronary stopping material.

And we all know he is a good long accurate kick on the run, so opefully convert a few too. We really haven't been getting the goals from our midfield that we need as the buffer for days when our forwards struggle.

I know we don't have a midfield anywhere near the class of West Coast, (and in turn they don't have a forward line anywhere near ours so it does even it up a bit) but they had 9 goals come from Cousins Judd and Fletcher yesterday.

Think along those lines how about a set up like this for next week (if Maxfield is rubbed out and Ball doesn't overcome his injury)

            B: C.Bolton A.Schauble J.Crouch
            HB: S.Dempster L.Roberts-Thomson L.Barry

Except for the one he missed in the last qtr.

Also how important were the two misses late in the 3rd qtr. should've been easy goals. Could've made a difference to the team confidence.

Bringing McVeigh back would be a good start and why not play Willoughby as well.

Leo Barry was also embarrassing today but he had plenty of friends.

At least Jude put in all day unlike the rest of the Swans who for some reason allowed their Crows opponents to run free all day.
Oh how the tide has turned. I was absolutely hammered on here a couple of weeks ago when I said Kennelly was not up to it, and suggested we try a few young guys. I still stand by what I said and think we should drop Kennelly, Mathews, Maxfield and possibly Nicks. I konw a lot of you will say that is too many changes, but what does it matter. We need to blood the young guys now so that next year they are well and truly ready for the season. if we make the finals this year we will only be making up the numbers.

The collective RWO memory is rarely more than a week. Remember, you are not alone Syd Swan, keep belting your drum. Big changes are necessary and it is time to start looking to the future. It is not really week four, but week 28 of this team structure and game plan. It too often lets us down when it matters, even if it does pull off the occasional 'back from the dead' heroic win. Get the kids in and let them PLAY.

What made me feel even more depressed after yesterday's loss is when you consider

                        a) Adelaide is not a premiership contender this year and they kicked 18 goals with a suspect forward line.

                        b) After watching the game between Melbourne and St Kilda last night on Fox, the gap in the skill level between those two (probably top 6 definately. if not top 4 sides) and us is so wide I feel sick. We are just not even close in disposal skills, head skills knowing where to run to and effort, running for a 2nd effort, finding space and supporting each other.

At times our pressure on the Adelaide ball carriers was non existent and that to me was a major major worry.

Injuries after yesterday's game is also horrendous. Surely we have to at least try someone like Moore or Willoughby.

One positive has been Dempster. It's also clear to see the positive influence that young players can play with and bring to the team. He runs through the middle, kicks long when seemingly everyone else wants to chip and get easy possensions and he gives you a contest every time.
McVeigh did well in the Res. yesterday, Schneider appeared to do very little...

I'm an avid Kennelly supporter and have clippings from the paper with him in them all over my fridge.
However I think its time he had a kick up the arse. I don't know if running him on the wing will help matters but its not working where he is now.

I don't think any of us can say his ego is at fault.

It frustrates me even so this year as i can watch more live games. We are so far behind in terms of skill its depressing. Even the tigers will over take us soon.

The club really needs to sit down and have a good hard look at the playing list.

But knowing this club nothing will change and the only players to be dropped this week will be the younger guys.

I really am starting to hate the swans more and more each week. My passion has waned and i am disinterested. I mean when you look at how the teams you mentioned play you realised what a dud team the SSFC is.

It's going to be a long season.

Tiger's problem is that he is being innapropriately used on key forwards.

Kennelly doesn't seem to be regularly matched up on the key forwards, but sometimes seems to find himself there. I'm not sure whether that is through switches, errors or deliberate tactics. Certainly a bad outcome because as bad a defender he is, he is even worse as a key defender!
