    Doesn't Kirk have a 100% record as Captain/coin tosser(Bris)?

    2 from 2??

I also find it amazing that this guy was delisted not that long ago and on the verge of never playing AFL again. Now he is to captain an AFL side???

It shows a lot about the guy, and what respect he has with his peers and the coaching/selection panel.

I'll have the trans-warp re-inverter ready for warp factor 14, Captain!

Not wanting to get too picky but he was never delisted.

He was on the Supp list in 1996 and not asked back the following year.

Kirk is a good call but stand by for all the "Captain Kirk beams the Swans up to success" headlines if we win this weekend.

The media and RWO call for Baz as captain is a sign of the superficiality of all our views of the club and team. For just about everyone, Baz is the Swans so of course we'd call for him to be the Captain. But in a recent interview he said that he is still a bit surprised that he is even in the leadership group. Of course the new players gravitate to him because he is the star. But you may find that others do much more as team leaders ie Kirk.

Did anyone notice in that article that Mathews is in the leadership group? And Schauble is not (I presume that is because of injuries as he certainly seems to be the boss of the backs when he's on the field).

I noticed that too. Maybe they decided that they needed a leader who is actually more likely to be on the field!!

My fear of having Baz as captain is that he may be more tempted (than he already is now) to go searching too far upfield for the ball when it is not coming forward due to his increased level of responsibility as captain.

I dont believe he should ever be rebounding from defence or on the wing. If he's there, who's in our forward line to receive his pass?

You're kidding, right? Saying that younger players gravitate toward Hall because he?s the ?star? is not the picture I?m getting on BBBB ? he?s played every game since 2003, runs hard, presents, plays team footy and demonstrated that he has knuckled down after a well-publicised early career wild streak. Nor has he lost any of his intimidation factor. He also has one of the young blokes (Davis?) boarding with him at the moment and is by all accounts a happy man at home with his mrs. IMO he?s a great leader at the club. I don't see him as "The Swans", and I don't believe many here do either, although the Syd media may see it otherwise (can't comment on that being a Mexican!).

He is admittedly our best player and our go-to man, although some clubs have their key player as their skipper - such Hird, Voss, Buckley, Neitz (although less so now) for eg.

Good point Sharpie. Though I still think Baz would make an excellent captain. Kudos to him for improving his manner (discipline) both on and off field. It will certainly pay off.

For most teams the key player and go-to player are the same.

Do many teams not have a captain who is the guy that can lift the team through great football?
