I cant help but think that this has also been a face saving means for Maxfield to resign the captaincy when his form has been quite ordinary so far this season. It also rescues the club from the risk of a potentially embarassing situation, should his form have become poor enough for them to need to drop him from the side.
I will, however, say that Maxfield has been a great player for the club over the last ten years.

I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat.
I wouldnt mind seeing Goodes get the captaincy but am not unhappy about Kirk getting it. Congrats to Kirk.

A shame we couldn't have had Captain Kirk when we had the Klingon in the side. The Star Trek jokes would have been amusing. We do have an Irishman instead of a Scot, too

I would have liked the captaincy to go to someone more marketable like Hall or Goodes.
Safety first is our way of doing things. Appointing Goodes or Hall would have been too adventurous for this administration. This bonds well with our on-field playing style.
Interesting.
I spoke to one of the boys yesterday and he said they were all happy to have him commuting from Melbourne half the time and staying on as captain.
Him spending the beginning of the week there and not being in Sydney during that time as 'captain' doesn't actually affect much change to their usual training routine. His recovery group at the beginning of the week is usually with a few of the senior players, so he's not around or advising the young ones anyway. I'm guessing it was Stewie's decision.
