Nicks was cruising but clearly a cut above. Schneider was very good in patches and seemed to be concentrating hard on his set kicking for goal (with good results). Sundqvist and Malceski both looked good in the second and third quarters. Didn't see Sunny in the final term (on the bench?) while Malceski looked a little tired and made some silly errors as a result.

Potter went off sometime in the middle of the game with what looked like a shoulder or arm injury and didn't come back.

Thought the defence was pretty ordinary in that they made some basic errors that led to Magpie goals. It didn't matter much since the Swans were mostly dominating in the midfield but I guess you're looking for the defenders not to make dumb mistakes in the few times they get the ball. Campbell, in particular, looks a long way away from AFL level.

Neither Willoughby nor Schmidt starred but both did some clever things with the ball when they got it. Both will play senior football.

Powell was the other one who caught my eye - and I'm not a Powell fan. He presented well in the forward line and marked strongly, though let himself down with some mixed kicking for goal.
Thanks for all that info Liz - I love hearing about the 2's!

      The reserves wear Swans colours.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Craig Bolton hasn't got a mention today. I thought his defensive work and running were superb. He didn't make a mistake that I could see.

The huge improvement today was the out of the centre work. Mostly due to Jolly's work. For once they were prepared to do whatever it needed to clear into our forward line. Someone must have told them it is ok to kick off the ground to move the ball on into our forward line.

Jolly played an absolutely outstanding game.

In LRT's case stats dont lie. Once again his man had a miserable day and LRT did some useful stuff with the footy. Slowly coming good for mine.

              Moore can play.

              Vogels can play.

Close to Leo Barry's best ever game.

              Goodesy. Very good game indeed.

Dempster. Looked like he played on Ebert who had about 8 possessions. This bloke is an absolute miser and much of his close checking work goes unheralded.

Ablett. He is growing in stature each week. It will be a long time before he gets dropped, if ever. Is he becoming the new engine room?

As a team easy the best effort for the year. Kick straight and we thump them big time. Players looked a lot sharper and fitter and made the contests in droves most times. To me it was a welcome return to hard line discipline.

Not entirely convinced by that. Effort-wise it was pretty good but there are still some structural / decision making things that need to be fixed.

Also, Port were horrid today. I reckon Essendon played significantly better last week than Port did today.

Knees I suspect. But you are right. He looks around for someone to give it to every time he is over 30 metres from goal. Often its to Ablett. Not sure MOL has many seasons left if he wont kick for goal 45 metres out and dead in front.

By the time I get home from the game much has already been posted so I'll keep my summation brief. Despite a dull, ordinary firsty half, I thought the second was better. We should have won by much more but again our goal kicking accuracy was terrible. Best thing today IMO was a number of individual performances:

Moore: great game for only his second, exciting potential.
Jolly: welcome to Sydney. A worthy replacement for Ball.
Schauble: the most intelligent player in the team.
Leo: excellent job keeping Treadreau goalless.
                      Goodes: tireless workhorse
Kennelly: back to his running best
                      Vogels: again showed potential

                      The not so good:
                      Buchanan: woeful goal kicking
                      Matthews: urgh
MOL: wont kick for goal further than 30m out.
McVeigh: dumb mistakes which may again cost him his snr spot

Port: the pits. How I love to see them lose. No premiership for them this year. If they keep playing that badly, they might collect the spoon.

Jude Bolton had a fantastic game. For the first time in years I'm starting to like what I see in the centre of the ground. Are we seeing the emmergence of a midfield of real quality:

J.Bolton, Kirk, NOG With a ruck division feeding them of Goodes and Jolly. Throw in Ball and Williams to come back. It looks good.

Yeah, but he's still woefully out of form. I wonder if he's carrying an injury?

I sort of mixed up the post and read it a bit like, "Maybe if you ask him nicely Bon Bon, he will let you have him."
