In the first qtr I thought we had totally lost it. Luke Vogels is a champion alright! Did anyone notice the score mistake on the screen at the end? It read 90 but then it read 89.

Well sorry mate but thats not how I sawit & presumably not how that other few 1000 people who booed the decision saw it. There was some mutual scragging but as Liz's picture shows Magic was actually in front. I figure same situation happened a few dozen times in the game & IIRC this was the only one paid this way.

Js has pointed out that he doesn't think the pic is from that particular incident. Murphy is impeding him but not holding him. If he was b4 that then the camera didn't pick it up.

But when the free was paid, as js said, MOL was holding Murphy's jumper, have another look on the replay.

Don't have the benefit of having the game on video, I grant you, but had an unimpeded view live and saw the replay at the ground. No more than the level of mutual holding, impeding, blocking that occurs at every ruck contest and most body-on-body forwardline contests, and (here is the real killer that made the decision dead wrong) MO'L let go first! Why? Because he'd tapped the ball to his advantage and was about to p*** off with it, whereas Murphy at that point knew he was in trouble and so was only concerned about the man.

The spirit of the rules is that the player playing the ball should be rewarded, and the player playing the man should be penalised. For example, at a ruck contest, or in a marking contest, contact that would otherwise be legal if it was incidental to your genuine intention to go for the ball, becomes illegal if you have your eyes on the man when you do it. In that contest, MO'L was the only player who touched the ball, and the only one who looked like touching the ball.

Definately! The Doggies have now possessed the ability of the 'Rodney Eade's Honourable loss' .
Fall asleep in the third quarter. Get slammed by Rocket. Come back strong early in the last to get within a few points. Fall asleep again and lose by 8-20 points.
Frustrating times for them me thinks

If they had a key forward and their captain things would probably be different.

You have to remember you were watching from the boudary line and can see much more than the ump can from the other side of the play, which also happened to be the same angle the camera was coming from. So if there was any other holding on then the ump may not have seen it.

As for the holding in most other contests. yes it does go on an probably very few get pinged (just ask Judd), it is just a luck of the draw thing. The umpire is trying to watch 20 players around the ball (it was a swans game ) and can't see everything.

Don't deny that the Swans used to do a fair bit of that (in fact, still do sometimes: cf Melbourne & Adelaide games, 2005), but it's a bit much to lay the Doggies' credentials in this respect at Rocket's door.

The Dogs have been the 'honourable loss' specialists at least since 1996 (see the super film, "Year of the Dogs"). In recent years, their game plan has frequently seemed to centre around breaking the all time VFL/AFL record for highest percentage by a team finishing bottom.

When Eade first took over in 1996 our 3rd Q surges were our trademark. Things seemed to change after that season. Who can forget that massive Q against North at Optus Oval. We used to split sides apart in the 3rd Q in 96.

With the Dogs, up until now they have been really good in the 3Q.
I have watched a number of their games and their fitness and ability to produce in the 2nd half have been a standout.

Maybe it's just me but I thought the umpiring was terrible again yesterday. Supposedly we had 16 frees but I'm boggered if I can remember half of those.

Actually, on that point ('cos the other one's become a bit boring), I thought that there were noticeably fewer players around the clearances yesterday. I suspected that this was a Dogs rather than a Swans coaching decision, but it's hard to say for sure.

Might be right there, and we seemed to play a more free flowing game because of it. Even Dermie said it was a good game to watch.

As a past knocker of Jude Bolton based on his deficiences, I am happy to say that he looks to have turned his game around. He is making few errors such as kicking to the opposition and appears to be getting in better position to accept the loose ball.

He has also been getting tagged most weeks so maybe for whatever reason this has made him more mindful of using his possessions better given they are harder to come by.
