IIRC Buchanan kicked out of bounds twice and a behind, all from kickable positions. IMO he either has to move to the midfield more or spend time in teh reserves and maybe give Schneider who kicked another bag of 6 a go.

As Dermie said when you get the ball on your prefered side, that (kicking a Goal) should be his bread and butter.

Monty needs the "Jude Treatment", ie he needs to take his time and not rush those kind of disposals because he had more time than he knew.

Monty's game against the Dons is an example of how he can play regularly if he starts focusing. If he's nailed 2 or 3 of those kicks today, we'd be singing his praises long into the night, but he just let himself down a bit today.

Vogels was excellent today obviously.

Moorey was a bit ho humm. I wonder if he'll play firsts on Saturday night?

Dempster and Vogels - we're doing OK with them.
Moore didn't get enough time, but looks good.

I reckon Mathews was on Cooney - hard to tell on TV but I think it was him. Whoever it was did very well.

I was very impressed with the way Vogels makes position - I think he has a future - he might start next week.

It was mostly Ben. He did a good job but he had no influence on the game himself unfortunately.

Thanks TheHood - thought it was him but couldn't tell.

I don't mind if this is Mathews' role - sometimes its better if he DOESN"T get the ball!

Thanks FL and TH - but I thought Mathews' disposal was generally very good - seemed to have time to spare, was almost always accurate and pushed the play in our favour. If only they all did!

I always become anxious when Mathews gets the ball - due to his incapablility to make a decision - and now he's wearing the white shoes - obviously getting ready for his turn at Captain.

Whilst he kept Cooney quiet - agree with the previous comments, its sometimes best that he doesnt get the ball at all.

Actually I'm the same LewBobTom - I get a bit jumpy then as well.

I thought Mathews had one of his better games, Even with white boots. (Tho they are not lairish anymore seeing as half the League wear them now). He hit more targets than he missed IIRC.

And for one of the rare occasions a swan actually passed the ball to LRT. This has been rare and noticeable, he stands there waving his arms, a mile in the clear, but his teammates very rarely pass it to him.

And he took a contested mark. And had to do a 2nd take coz I didn't think it was him.

Vogels, showed some poise with his 2nd goal. and gr8 skill to outmark his opponent with his 3rd, and gr8 composure to slot it thru both times. This gives us 3 big targets up forward.

Even his first goal came from a pretty impressive mark. Used his knee to legally nudge his opponent out of the contest and never looked like dropping it.

Great instincts, works hard defensively to keep the ball in the zone, good at hunting the packs and being in the right spot, but just cannot kick the footy through the goals! This is a bit of a serious flaw for a forward.

Unfortunately, yesterday was not an aberration. The stats nerds will have the exact figures, but his goals:behinds ratio across his career is not pretty at all. If he can't correct this very very rapidly, then he has to make a niche for himself as a rover (remember them?) or small backman, or he's gone, sorry to say.
