There were two occasions last night when I was inspired to get up on my hind legs and yell out "Mug lair!" One was when Schneids went for a run through the centre square as if he was going to get to the other end and goal; he was run down. The other was when he ran down the line into the left forward pocket and kicked a behind instead of centring the kick. I don't know if this is what he does in the seconds but it doesn't work at the top level.

And we don't make space anywhere on the ground and when they kick to a leading player they are usually closely manned because we take a week to spot them up.
And how many times do we choose to play on from inside the 50 metre arc when a set shot would surely have brought a less rushed shot on goal. I just hate it to see the players in the midfield actually get a decent pass up to one of our HF/FF line player. Only for them to flip out an arsey handpass that was never on to a player who is under pressure who ends up muffing a shot he A) should not be missing in the first place and B) should never have been given.
No wonder we are so inaccurate in front of goal!

Should we be encouraging young players to back themselves or pull them for "being a mug lair"?Our Greatest Moment:

Crouch has a set shot from 50m, but doesn't want to be compared with poor Bucky in the "most innaccurate" category Ch10 popped on the screen before the game.
So should he go back and try to be a "hero", knowing that if he misses everyone derides him for making the wrong choice? Or does he handball it to Hall, who although under pressure, is running towards goal?
The end result only failed because ROK missed from directly in front with his non-preferred. But if Crouchies effort on goal instead had dropped five meters shot only to be punched through, would he have gotten more credit?? Doubt it.Our Greatest Moment:

Crouch is an AFL player. He should be criticised for not having a shot. If he missed he should be criticised for missing. FFS, plenty of players in the U18 in the ACTFL could have kicked it.
As for Schneids, the more mug lair the better.Comment

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Sheeds was a master of this trick some years back. We simply dont have an answer if they decide to play a loose man in defence. As long as we sent someone to match him up, Sheeds would just send another guy down. Eventually, we have to send some guy of Crouch attacking quality up forward and then, the presence of such player is irrelevant to the strategy the Dons was playing.
Other teams now adopt this tactics for the battles in the middle. Adelaide was one of such. The depth they have with their midfield means that the advantage they have in 10-on-10 midfield set-up is actually more than 5-on-5 midfield set-up. The gap between their second group of midfielders and ours is simply huge so biggest the number there actually means better advantage for them.Comment
