I'm guessing that goes back to your original assumption that WCE finish 1st? Looking pretty likely at the moment, but still have 11 games to go. Look at Melbourne last year, a game clear on top of the ladder after Rd 18. Lost their lost 4 H&A games to drop to 5th going into the finals, then lost again in Wk 1 and that was it for their season.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

11 rounds in and we are yet to beat a side that has won half its games or has a break even percentage. Our measurement is interfering with the results less and less.

True, but we've beaten both grand finalists of last year.

          So have many other sides!!

This far into the season, and given most of our wins weren't huge, our wins don't have a huge impact on where the teams we beat are placed.

            Look at it this way:

            1. We've played pretty ordinary this year, with only a few patches of really good footy.
            2. We've copped a lot of criticism.
            3. We started the season with high expectations, considering our past couple of years.
            4. We have dropped some games we should have won, and won a few we could easily have lost.

The same can be said of Port and Brisbane, but we are 2 games ahead of both. I know which team I'd rather be supporting.

I still don't get why 4th is better than 3rd...??

With 4 flags in 4 years between them, hmm...

But would you prefer to play, say, West Coast at Subi in the first week or Melbourne at the MCG?

The only advantage I can see is if you assume you lose the first week, the preliminary final is not likely to be Subi.

You always refer to this. Maybe because you are so interested in the statistical side of things, and that it requires you to look backwards a lot.

When I plant my butt on the seat each weekend I want to see my team win. If we lose, I dont walk out thinking "Well at least WE made the GF in 1996!"

I seriously doubt most supporters of any team care less about the premierships they have won in the past, except when they can use it to sledge opposition supporters.

Considering the result from last year, if I was a Port supporter I would be more dirty on my team's fall from grace than any other team. Brisbane would be a similar story.

                        This one confuses me to.

Finish as high as you can IMO. Then play each game as it is presented.

So, when you win a flag you only get to enjoy it for about a week or two and then it's meaningless...?

Of course you want to see your side win, but I think it's a bit much to say I'd rather be the supporter of a side two wins in front of one of the recent premiers, rather than one of the premiers.

Comparing a recent flag win to a GF birth nearly a decade is also a bit of a stretch.

I can only assume you say that on the basis that Sydney would play WC in Perth first up, lose, then not have to play them again until the GF if Sydney got that far?

Yes thats what I said. That its "meaningless"

More correctly, I am implying that having won a premiership is cold comfort if your team is uncompetitive the very next year. I certainly think that watching your team get thumped by WC to the tune of 20-goals would not be sufficiently tempered by last years results.

Given that your team either beat St Kilda away or Freo away on the weekend, and is only half or one game out of the eight, hardly makes them uncompetitive.

I think having a down couple of years might be worth a flag. It's certainly greater comfort than simply making finals in recent years.
