There have been some unco players over the years - Charles Manson of Collingwood and Fitzroy, our own Dunks, eve Barry Round was not that coordinated. The one thing they all share in common is a capacity to mark the footy and an ability to read the play. LRT has neither ability. He can run quite fast, has long arms, good for punching, so that defines his role for now and probably into the future.

Either that, or a spot on playschool.

LRT's performance last night would have been funny if it wasnt funny. He is pathetic. How is it that he can make so many stuff ups, so many unpressured clangers, and not get dragged? How is it that he remained on the ground for the entire game (correct me if I'm wong)? Is he Paul Roos' love child? What the ****** is it with him keeping his spot in the seniors? He doesnt even deserve a spot in the reserves! ENOUGH! DROP HIM!!

That he plays in the seniors while Schauble plays in the reserves is incomprehensible.

As long as LRT is in the team, there is nothing to complaint about for me.

My game is improving too. In fact I am improving faster than Hall. Does that mean I should be playing seniors for the Swans?

I have always thought the major weakness in his defensive game is inclose situations. His mobility means that he could always negate a contest on the lead etc... But when the opposition is close and he got to use body-to-body, he could be found out.

In this context, his spoiling effort in the goal square in the first quarter was really good. He was out of position. Still at the last moment, he was able to get his hand up to make an effective spoil. I havent seen him doing this before.

Once he could do this adequately, it would be really hard for his direct match-up to be the target man for the opposition. That is what expected from a Key Defender. Taking the matching Key Forward out of their game structure impacts the opposition much more that the mere numerical information could show.

Yes, he had not used the balls effectively yet but that will come once he is comfortable with the defensive part of his game. Didnt people notice how relaxed he was when he made that beatiful pass to Davis.

Two more years and I think we will have a very good cornerstone of our defence with LRT.

Do you have any tool that is superior than the average AFL player playing in the same position? In the case of LRT, it is his aggression and athletism.

He could be that enforcer in the backline. Once his tackle sticks, the man would surely feel it.

The backbone of his game is there. Just need to add some beefs.

One of us is wrong Newbie, only time will tell. For me he has not come anywhere near far enough this season.

You definitely can't fault his effort, but until he improves his disposal and starts to read the play better, he will probably cop alot from the fans. I'm willing to cut him some slack on the reading the play side of things because he hasn't been playing footy for all that long, but he has no excuse for such atrocious kicking.

Andrew Schauble can both read the play ANd kick truly more often than not. Andrew Schauble is a CHB.

Why in hell's name are we keeping LRT there when in my view we have a player who is more than capable of playing the position, is more mobile, has not let us down in the past AND has beaten the best CHFs in the business over recent seasons.

I'd love to known what he has done wrong in the last season or so.

LRT had his worse game last night probably for the season. But his spoiling has improved markedly and I reckon his second efforts are as good as anyone else's in the team. His marking has been shocking over the last few weeks, but he is out-positioning his opponent well enough to at least get to position to take those marks.

The big plus he has going for him is that his inadequacies have yet to cost us a game. So while he can continue gaining experience playing long spells at CHB without costing us it can only be beneficial.

He is not yet good enough, but I can see why Roos persists with him. If he comes good, you can build a defense around him.

As always, I keep thinking back to Mal Michael's early Collingwood days, and this gives me hope that LRT too can make it.

I don't mind the lad but I agree with JF and others. It's utterly lamentable that he's in the side when a solid, consistent, proven performer in Schauble is left out. For mine, the only thing he can do effectively is spoil and punch. His kicking and marking, particularly when under pressure, leaves a lot to be desired. Schauble - as I understand it - was dropped because of his lack of pace and mobility. But LRT is no greyhound, and at least Schaubs knows how to stay on his feet! It's baffling.

My favourite LRT moment last night was early in the game, when LRT was jogging down the members side wing, no pressure on him, no Geelong players near him, and he spots a player down the line a few metres inside the boundary. He then goes to chip on his preferred right foot, a simple kick and he puts it 2 metres over the boundary line
