Davis has more talent though and has never really gone for a period without kicking goals. That is where a lot of the frustration that some people have with him has always sat, that he is talented enough to sit on his arse and only collect 4 touches but get 3 goals for his trouble... so they want to say "ditch the lazy bastard" but it is harder to say when the lazy bastard consistently kicks a bag of goals. Very different situation to Adam.

When your Schneider's height you really have to maximize your strengths. His fitness issues have compromised his pace advantage. His kicking IMHO is not in the same league as someone like a Davis anyway so he has to work hard to maintain his place. You'd think the penny would have dropped by now though.

I think that just about hits the nail on the head.

Roos is on record as saying that Schneider wasn't really ready to be on an AFL list when he arrived, the implication being in terms of physical development but also maturity.

Despite that, it was clear watching Port and training sessions that year that the boy could play and didn't lack confidence in his ability.

Then in 2003 "success" came very quickly and - at least on the surface - very easily.

Even after his frustrations last season it was evident that the penny hadn't dropped by the start of this year of how much work was required, judging by the reports that he turned up for pre-season badly out of shape. Even at the start of the calendar year he said in a newspaper article that he'd lost some weight, even though he hadn't really thought he needed to.

I have no doubt the guy can play senior AFL football. It's just a case of how long it will take him to realise the work he needs to put in.

Agree with most you have said Roscoe, but you left one thing out.
He has real trouble finding the footy, which I am afraid is what the game is all about. There is no way he is a better footballer than Buchanan, because Buchanan is proving that he is prepared to do the really hard stuff. He runs hard all day, whereas Schneider is puffing like Anthony Rocca does after 1 sprint.

They brought Moore in last week before him which says something and I would expect Malceski to play ahead of him this if there are any changes.

Whilst i agree with you, i hope he does remain.

He clearly has talent, if he can get the mental parts right he will be very good IMO. If he does get delisted it will probably be the 'kick' he needs and will star for someone else.

Surely a big part of being an AFL coach is getting talented players to get the best out of themselves. Big test for Roos and coaches as well as Schneider IMO

Just curious as to what the impression was based on.

I think it's easy to jump to conclusions on things like attitude and if it's just based on observation of the players onfield, I question whether those conclusions are valid. You only see part of the situation and can't necessarily work out why someone is behaving the way they are.

If an impression is based on real information about a player's attitude then the conclusion has a bit more basis.

As I said, I was just curious.

I think you may have forgotten how utterly crap Monty was prior to 2004. He didn't even look good at reserves level.
I, like the majority of honest RWOers will admit they were unsurprised when he was delisted and less than enthused when he was redrafted. In 2004 he looked a bit of a worry, and he still can be especially when up forward.
I'm not saying Schneider's not a worry he certainly needs a good smack in the head, but suggesting he should be chopped is RWO baby&bathwater thinking at it's best.
Yes we have a lot of hobbits in our team but Schneider is quicker than them all (He's genuinely fast, with truly explosice pace over the first 20m), he's a better kick than most (Monty for example tend to float his kicks a bit like Mathews) and at the very least he has been a goalkicker (Monty is still awfull). The big problem of course is he's not AFL fit, neither in the aerobic nor the toughness sense.

The true reason is his daft decision to swap his magical number 36 guernsey for the dreaded number 13 before the 2004 season began. Things just haven't worked for him since. And what happened when Frosty McPherson shunned the 32 for the 13? The very same thing. I kid you not, the only way Schneids will evr return to the form of 2003 is by getting rid of that evil # 13. Legend has it that everyone's favourite hardman Rod 'Tilt' Carter wanted to keep the 13 as his own, and let's be honest it hasn't quite worked for anyone since. It's high time this number was retired.
