    Sydney again on free-kick caution

Given their most recent experience, the Swans might have furrowed brows about McLaren umpiring his first grand final since 2001.

However, figures obtained yesterday from Champion Data show that over the 2005 season, he is one of the few umpires who has blown the whistle in Sydney's favour: 49 for to 42 against.
he had better make it even more positive on saturday and not pay any stupid frees to WC

Even when Leo Barry was told yesterday by one of the kids at the open training session who the umpires were he just replied "Your joking arent you!" with this stark white face!
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

          allen/goldstink/mclaren

Allen Syd for 14 - Syd Against 28
Goldstink Syd for 19 - Syd Against 35
McLaren Syd for 49 - Syd Against 42

Allen WCE for 10 - WCE Against 10
Goldstink WCE for 21 - WCE Against 19
McLaren WCE for 27 - WCE Against 29

shows how much mclaren has umpired us this year
he is the only one in the positive for us this year
very very suprising spose its the ones that he does pay and the ones he doesnt that costs us with his umpiring

exactly, I would rate McLaren a much worse umpire than Allen despite those stats. Also depends where they are on the ground, the umpires don't seem to mind giving us frees in the D50 but Hall would have to be stabbed for us to get one in the F50.

It's coming down to a fairytale finish to the season, with Roos' arch-nemesis Goldsphincter in the final match. Can "Roos. Paul Roos" defeat the villain?

Could they have picked a worse selection of umpires?
I actually started a thread about our "oponents" this week, but it seems to have vapourised, RWO may be suffering exhaustion from the over-work.
You gotta hand it to the AFL, they're very persistent in trying to crucify us.

I still believe it would be much worse if we played a victorian side.

Exactly, I don't understand why they don't take this approach to every game, I'm always a lot happier for the umps to miss a few free kicks rather than pay ones that aren't there.

Swans think the selected umpires are biased

                              Full story

Yesterday, Sydney football manager Andrew Ireland played down the significance of the choice of umpires, claiming that the club was concentrating on things it could control and that there was nothing to be gained by discussing the appointments.

"I don't think it's appropriate for us to discussing the umpires on the eve of the grand final." Ireland said. "We've got a job to do and they've got a job to do and I'm sure everyone will be trying to do it to the best of their ability.

"I'm not one for analysing or over-analysing what umpires do or don't do. I'm certain the three umpires will be doing their best on the weekend and we'll be having a fair crack at trying to win the game, as will West Coast.

"I think people always feel that the best games are the ones where the umpires almost blend into the background and I hope that's the case on the weekend."
Agree wholeheartedly - the players shouldn't be worrying about the umpires, and let's hope that the only mention they get in the post-match analysis is because they were barely noticed.

                              I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.
