Revised Fixtures for Round 12 & postponed Round 9

Round 12 was originally scheduled as a split round to be played over the weekends 7-8 and 14-15 July, but all games will now be played on the weekend of 7-8 July. The postponed round 9 games will be played on the weekend of 14-15 July.

    The revised fixtures:

    Round 12:
    Balmain v UNSW-ES (Drummoyne, Saturday 7/7, 2pm)
North Shore v Wollongong (Gore Hill, Saturday 7/7, 2pm)
Campbelltown v East Coast Eagles (Monarch, Saturday 7/7, 2pm)
Sydney Uni v St George (Henson Park, Saturday 7/7, 6:30pm)
Wests v Pennant Hills (Wagener Oval, Sunday 8/7, 2pm)

    Round 9:
    Campbelltown v Wollongong (Monarch, Saturday 14/7, 2pm)
    Pennant Hills v UNSW-ES (Ern Holmes, Saturday 14/7, 2:15pm)
North Shore v Balmain (Gore Hill, Saturday 14/7, 2:15pm)
Sydney Uni v Wests (Henson Park, Sunday 15/7, 2pm)
St George v East Coast (Olds Park, Sunday 15/7, 2pm)

Interestingly, the Swans are playing at the SCG on both Sundays; so we have Sydney AFL matches clashing with the Swans, something that's been avoided in the past (with the notable exeption of the prelim final last year clashing with a Swans home game).

    Another ludicrous decision.

    The round should be scrapped.

What happens if it rains the next 2 weekends?

Do we keep playing in October.

What seems a solution will lead to further embarassment as teams will undoubtedly complain.

I think a few teams will boycott this round on this.

I'm not so sure. The main imperitave should be to play as many games as can be, and cancellation as a last resort. Not playing this weekend was frustrating, but if those games can be made up over the split round then there's no harm done.
But if some grounds were open this weekend (I believe Monarch is open, some others may be as well), maybe they could have played some games this weekend and wouldn't have had to postpone as many.

Last year we had 3 weekends when only premier division seniors were played, while all other grades were cancelled. Since there was the split round, I don't see any problem with rescheduling so the reserves and under-18s can get their games.
But I'm surprised they've scheduled Sunday games at the same time as the Swans are at the SCG - they've always been careful to avoid that in the past (except for last year's prelim final). I think Henson's booked for the rugby league on the Saturday, but I can't think of any reason why the games at Wagener and Olds aren't on the Saturday of those weekends.

        Norris,

Who cares when Swans are playing.

For those who post here, how many of you have already made other plans for split rd?

Did the league specify at the commencement of the season a catch up game would be played on the split rd?

What happens if we are washed out next and subsequent weeks?

Why should this rd have more importance than them?

I believe this decision will be overturned or you could see certain clubs forfeiting this rd.

Once again hq, some commonsense- a chance to start.

          Mr PHD,

Please do the whole league a favour and continue with your plans for the split weekend, you will not be missed.

But let those who would like to play footy on this weekend, play it.

From what i understand of last years competition and the many washouts of the other two grades, it was a farce and made many players lose interest in the league and the game in general.

We should be encouraging the playing of all 3 grades, where possible, and if weather intervenes later on down the track, then the win/loss % factor will take care of that.

            hear hear.
Any way of getting the first division games back? A midweeker perhaps? The clubs scheduled to play are reasonably close together. NWJ v Pen, Sharks v UTS. More distance for Parra v Manly but it could be worked out if the Sydney AFL and the clubs wanted to do it.

Once again I am thankful the majority does not agree with me.

If the league stated at the start of the season a make up game fair enough.

However, why should this missed rd be more important than any others that may occur?

As one of you "wise men" pointed out, this is the reason the & factor is in place.

The other plans for the split round that Mr PHD mentioned was (I'm guessing) a reference to Balmain's planned trip to Fremantle to do sessions with the Dockers.

A revised fixture for these weekends' fixtures is available here.

So the league has rescheduled Premier, Premier Reserves, Under 18 Premier, Second Division and one Under 18 Challenge match.
                    What's missing?

From a players perspective who doesn't live breathe and die football, it is frustrating because we only get 2 weekends off a year from April through to Sep, so obviously players make plans for those weekends with flights etc booked. To have a game rescheduled with only 3 or 4 weeks notice and then to expect every player from every team to be fully available is a tad unrealistic and only caters for the footy tragics, which contradicts the wet weather policy in the first place (granted that the councils dictate this, but still what footy die hard would want to play in a comp which doesn't allow wet weather matches).

I agree with Mr PHD, that if the league plans on using the split round as an avenue to make up any possible delayed matches it should be clearly stipulated.

                        Your sincerely,

Thought your mate LL would want to play as many games as poss, as LL is rare form, actually he is on fire. Hope he sets his sights on top 5 finish with goals.

Absolutely, play it under lights mid week by all means. Perhaps then our 19th man can hide in the darkened pocket rather than getting busted by you blokes

Thanks for the kind words Rooboy, unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, LL has no motivation to be in the top 5 goal kickers for the year, the only thing that is motivating LL is our new 'Happy Meal Voucher' we have been giving to the most selfish forward over the past 4 weeks.

We are pleased that we are only giving out a a Happy Meal to LL each week, as he previously would have simply gone straight for the upsized double qtr pounder meal instead. We believe this is an incremental improvement for the fat pr*ck.
