Surely I have no agenda, just opinions.
Just to clarify the link between my views and Team GWS and expansion....
Yes, I happen to believe that Team GWS is ill-conceived as the AFL massively under-estimates how strong NRL and soccer are there and how weak AFL is. Your comments re the struggles at SWS are consistent with this. I'd love to be wrong as two strong viable AFL teams here would be great.
My point being.... IF Team GWS is to be successful long term then surely they will need to be based on strong grassroots foundations (i.e. a "footy culture" in the greater west), part of which must be more senior clubs in that area - without this then the whole Team GWS will be a house of cards. That an AFL team can be sustainable LONG TERM with 2 senior teams (Parra and Penrith) in it's direct catchment area is ludicrous.
Not saying it will be easy or cheap (then again neither will Team GWS) or that it could happen next year (or even the year after) but surely some of the $200M should be spent at the grassroots level and surely that will eventually lead to new senior clubs west of Parramatta within the next 5 or so years which I think would be good for the game.
