IMO the best fullback in the competition, Pennant Hills' Lloyd Shepherd, has signed with Albury Tigers in the Ovens and Murray League.
Big loss for the Demons right there."It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

Thats what I thought - to be honest he is wasting his time if he thinks it will improve his chances of getting drafted - given that there were only a few mature age players from the VFL to be drafted this year when the GC was included and would have been looking for mature bodies.Comment

Shephard will be a huge loss for the Demons. Very rarely beaten and a good clubman. I would think Coles will be lucky to play 5 senior games at Geelong in the VFL. I also heard that Skuse was trying his luck in the WAFL. Not sure with who though. I heard Sam Shmidt is a bit of a Brett Voss or Sam Power, ie the not as impressive but we will give him a go because his brother can play type. Has anyone got any back ground on him?The only All Australian captain charged with glassingComment

hi all yep there has been some massive positive news with signings this week for the dockers and i can assure you this isnt a massive bandaid approach either balmain are taking a holistic approach to rebuilding the club on and off the field with key appointments everywhere. In 2010 you will see first hand the changes in player leadership, fitness and skills it has been long over due this is the first step of many,But above all its great for the sydneyafl to have such players running around on our ovals improving the standard of footy in our state. We are along way behind other states but to have such players prepared to play in our league and give something back is awesome. And even playing against luffy was a little buzz(not the score though).Instead of bagging good talent we should be trying to drag every bit of afl talent to our league all divisions. Now im off for a beer and a scratch to bloke it up abit.Comment

The proof will be in the pudding I suppose and I sincerely hope it happens, just wary at outgoings not balancing the incomings in the Drummoyne budget in 2-3 years though.
Best of luck for 2010!!!Comment

I hear that Stanford, skuse & ure are all trying out at also
they are the only 3 SAFL who love themselves more then themselves.
Coles is a circus clown wont play & will be in EC colours by R1.

Am I the only one here who listens to what is going on in Syd footy??? Balmain have become a financial powerhouse through a deal regarding property development. It was talked about at their preso and then mentioned on this forum or maybe it was on their website.
From what I have been told, the kind of figures being thrown around here (which I bet thousands are wrong) re player payments, are small fry. They could go out tomorrow and buy a premiership, but they are choosing to secure a few top shelf players (and Mug Punter, god help whatever club you are involved with. By making a comment that Schmidt wasn't a superstar at the Swans, basically implying he won't kill SFL, just shows you truly don't understand the standard of footy here in Syd) and build around that.
Whats wrong with that????
If I wasn't old, over weight and had time on my hands, I would be all over what Balmain are trying to achieve.
My mate there is over the moon with excitement. Honestly, some people need to put their own issues in the past. Surely the outcome everyone wants is Sydney footy to thrive?? Reading some things said on this forum, I would bet my house that some people here want clubs to fail. As i said, i am not officially a part of any club and have never pulled a boot on in Syd (re read me being old and over weight) but I just love footy. Moving from Melb, where footy is not something just discussed, but a way of life, I want to go out on Sat or Sun and watch local footy. I want to see the standard get better. I want to see AFL players coming into the Syd league. Now there is a club who can afford it and some people bag it out.
Good luck to Big Show and the lads at Balmain.Comment
