    Balmain land another one....

Word on the street is that Balmain have appointed Nick Fosdyke as the senior coach for 2010, following Jason Saddingtons forced resignation due to his recently appointed role at the NSW - AFL. Jas will stay on in a playing assistant coach capacity and join Tim Schmidt as ex - Swans playing at Drummoyne in 2010. Great to see the Sydney boys staying together and continuing to develop the game in this city. Must only be a good thing for the SFL!! Looking forward to a few afternoon beers on the hill at Drummoyne enjoying some good quality local footy!! Also, rumours are that Nick wont be the last player with AFL experience to get on the Docker bandwagon this year??? Watch this space....

They're doing well with the big names, but 'word on the street' is less than 30 on the track...going to need the average Joes to start showing up.

Dont worry Pekay im sure everyone will shortly receive a txt like I did, "Nic Fosdike has signed as head coach of Balmian for 2010 and will be at training on Mon night. Make sure you are there to welcome him on board.", bound to get everyone there id say.

Has he ever coached a game at all? Or are they just throwing $$$$'s at a name?

Money definately isnt the issue just got the second text message "Jason Saddington will be playing assistant coach for 2010", guess the
            AFLs rules are token only.

Not surprising that there are only 30 training. All their players have moved on elsewhere.

Of course they have bagged another one and probably will bag a few more, when the dollars dry up they will go, I highly doubt any of them would of signed for them for little or minor match payments, there would be no way they would all sign unless it was for good coin.

Whilst great for the league to have ex afl player playing, having them all bought and at one club is it good for the game??

Although though reading Fosdike is non playing....

Wonder if the forced resignation of Saddington, he had to reduce his pretty sweet pay packet with it??

Heres hoping though Balmain doesnt spend all this $$$ so quickly for a premiership, because once this lot of money is gone it is gone....

If you are getting these texts Tara, i assume you are from Balmain??....if so, why wouldn;t you be full of excitment??

I think its great what Balmain are doing...Sydney Footy will be better for it.

Also, I know Fossie from a previous life. I am pretty sure he played in a SANFL reserves premiership with Tom Harley as a 17 year old. Maybe the Dockers to land another name soon???

Detox I think its great to see ex afl players strenghtening our local comp and ultimately improving it - whether Balmain throwing the cheque book open this year does anything to help their culture long term remains to be seen but I doubt it - and to your question as to allegience no im not from Balmain but the texts are real.

Anyway good luck to them - Saddo is a quality person so they are at least getting people of the right calibre to the club.

It's hardly a case of a long-term dominant team buying up the rest of the competition EPL-style. In the time I've been around Sydney footy, Balmain have never been anywhere near the finals and have generally struggled to be competitive. If this can breathe some life, or at least some self-belief, into that club, that can't be all a bad thing.

I played at Balmain in 97/98. They were a magnificent club that had worked hard to gain sponsorship and recruit. The committee looked after everyone and there was a great leadership group. We followed the leaders (NO matter how much they were geting) because of the atmosphere. Was lucky enough to be around for the Flag. Then and I mean then...a couple went overseas and interstate and the big mistake of Mr T Luff..@@@@@@ everything. Yes we all new what he was getting but his attitude stunk...My point is that if Balamin pay high prices for QUALITY recuits make sure they are there for the Club..Not themselves...and cash.. This could be the re-emergence??? and GET THE TIGER BACK...Like the tigers of OLD!!!!

They really shouldn't have let Yoley go though.

Ditch the purple and green first step. Gone backwards since they dropped the famous sash.

tipping balmain will end up like the EPL side Manchester City.
