Geeze. It's not as though teams are burning the flag or stoning Mother Theresa to death, is it?

It's good that the supporters, whether there are 2 or 200 there, to see a bit of celebration after watching a couple of hours of the game.

As most sheds in Sydney are pretty much ajoining each other, it would be more raucous if done in the sheds. Isn't that more disrespectful?

Anyhow, the club that verbally opposes it the most seem to start their song on the ground and continue all the way to the sheds before they burst into the first chorus.

Some people think they are more precious than a Monarch Oval pie.

And at the kebab shop. And in the drunk tank at Windsor. Mostly love the sing offs against the two union teams on Saturday nights.

Understandable mate, but surely people can see how it could be percieved as disrespectful.

This is the most ridiculous thread I have ever read about footy. Having played for many years, in a number of states and in many leagues I can assure it is just not an issue.
Yes for most games, 19 out of 20, the song is normally sung in the rooms, but there are games where it is sung on the ground. Games that are big comebacks, games that are emotionally important (the passing of a club legend) or a game that just means a lot to the playing group and supporters.
If anyone thinks that there is a rule about where to sing the song they WRONG.
P.S. Pekay I think you will find that wxnker Thain is from Vic not SA.

I thought it was done with...I guess Pekay just loves telling that Thainy story (and he is from SA, not the home of all things good). I can say though PK, it was definitely talked about from that game (Rd 17?) till when we met again in the Prelim Final.

Well firstly its a bonding moment and celebration by the players and coaching staff for a battle won. When you sing it on the ground its just hell lame, like your trying to rub it in, akin to dancing on someones grave. a bit unsportsman like. If you do wanna rub it in sing it loud from the sheds.

Also im unaware of any AFL clubs doing it out on ground?

Well you may say this is ammo footy in NSW, not AFL/VFL.

Whitten was a philanderer and @@@@ bloke towards women in general by a fair few accounts, hey? Growing up and playing in Sydney from under 8s I've always known it to be sung more on the field than the sheds, hey?

There's one or two club songs I've heard in Sydney footy which have excerpts that belong in neanderthal times - doesn't matter whether they are sung in the sheds or on the ground.

I never realised there was an alternative to;

Win a Home & Away Premiership = Sing it on the ground.
All other games = Sing it in the sheds.

I notice there are no premier division sides supporting the sing it on the ground argument. I think it feels a little unprofessional to sing on the ground after a win and you are carrying on a bit uncessarily after just a win. It's always been drummed into teams I've played within that you really have nothing to celebrate until winning a premiership, the job is not done until you reach that point.

This is not simply about getting a head of yourself, but it also feels a little like it is bad sportsmanship too. If you win, celebrate in private (in your dressing rooms). Don't rub it in your opposition's face, unecessarily.

But have you tried to fit inside some away sheds (our at Gwawley probably one of the worst)?
I like hearing the other teams song after a loss.... As a coach I make my team listen to it and remember it so hopefully it doesn't happen next time....
