They also have access to a pretty good untapped geographical part of Sydney - lots of people between Kensington, Kogarah and Croydon.

Understand their desire to build their own history but I could see them maybe trying to untap the old South Sydney club legacy, maybe change their colours to red and green. Will probably be required anyway as they will be clashing with Mac Uni soon colour wise....

Surely the Saints get preference at the Red, White and Black Colours seeing we're called the Saints.

      Warriors/Kookaburras can change.

Saints wearing Red and Green wouldn't make much sense

I always wondered why the league allowed them into the comp as "Saints" anyhow. Thought there was a team slightly south of Maroubra who had a lien on the name. Good luck in getting a club established for a while to tell them to change their strip.

I would be whinging to the mob that came up with the name in the first place

Agreed. We left the Saints name back in 99, St George are forever known as the Saints, Mac Uni had the colours the year you blokes started, yes? Probably need to look at an alternate. I'd think a club with 3 teams (Maroubra) would change before Mac Uni (7 teams?) but, all power to ya.

There is no doubing that the Saints have done a fantastic job and maybe the selection of the name "Saints" helped identify it as an AFC, but maybe I could forward two points. Firstly and of minor consequence is that teams with their own unique identity of name or colour seem more attractive than a "off-the-shelf" one. I know alliances are a fact of life now but it is a liitle saddening when clubs change from their historical names/colours to AFL ones. Overseas there are many fantastic innovations in colours and names making them more attractive.
Secondly and more importantly I'd suggest that because Maroubra has done so well that they aim high and wide and take on the mantle of "South Sydney". IMO that would have a number of benefits and possible link ups all cumulating in making life easier for your club. For example, the fact that "South Sydney" has been reborn is worth a lot of exposure in the football world, local government and maybe the community.
            give it to the game

Why not change your name now before the joint gets too big?

East Coast Breakers would be available !

Or the Maroubra Marlins....Maroubra Mullets....or even the Bra Boys

Would be an interesting clash when you play SHEgirls.

                "SHEgurls V Bra Boys"

Might even be able to charge at the gate.

i'm pretty sure we've looked into getting an alternate jumper for when we play mac uni. so that will be the only time we have to worry about it at this stage. as for the name i cant see it changing from Saints AFC for the time being i think the saint is trying to stir a few people up.

I would think the AFL would rather a team called the 'Saints' keep the Red, White and Black before Mac Uni??

How many colour variants have Mac Uni had?? if they have not kept a consistent Red, White and Black why should they get first crack at the colour?

Why would we change our name, the junior club is the Saints. South Sydney is Rugby League through and through. We don't need to piggy back off them, they don't like AFL.

So it makes sense to gain some measure of acceptance .

I'm pretty sure that South Sydney was a foundation member of the NSWAFL in 1903 and survived for some time thus it predates rl and could be seen as re-incarnation of the old club gaining quite a few benefits.

One change in over 40 years due to the Uni forcing it on them you muppet and that was before you even existed.

Spot on Mahatma, I think the warriors could possibly rustle up a few of the old green and gold jumpers for the those games too. If it wasn't for the Uni, the club would still be in the green and gold and known as the
Kookas, unfortunately the club had to change to stay aligned with the Uni and have the ability to use that great field (even though the Uni changed the name of the field from Roger Sheran Oval to University Oval).
