It won't be but this should be a timely reminder to the likes of Eddie Three Chins and Gill the Dill that the game up here is actually in quite a parlous state and that it needs to be developed and not torn down...
Again this is happening in GWS heartland, wasn't the opposite meant to happen as a result of their arrival?Comment

If that is truly the case, then they can give up now ... once the junior club is gone, the senior club is only a step behind ...
I really don't know why people have so much trouble understanding that, and take so long to ralise that a strong, closely engaged junior competition is the simple reason for strong senior clubs.
It ain't rocket science ... but I suppose we are trying to educate football administrators here so we need to speak slowly ...Comment

What Colesy is saying is another entity will appear as Magic branded soon enough. Feathering one's nest so to speak while letting a 30 year old club disintegrate.
Happy to be corrected by a talking head, however, its clear as day that the 'development officers' have failed in their roles if a club can fold in such a populated area.Comment

Standard AFL practice.
Had it explained to me years ago by a GWSJAFL Coordinator.
They even refer to it as the "Phoenix Principle".
As with the mythical bird that must die in a shower of flames, to later be reborn, if any club rejects the AFL's methods, policies or plans, they are simply burnt to the ground.
It is then just a matter of time before a new generation of parents/players/administrators "rises from the ashes" to replace them. Normally takes 5-7 years I was reliably informed. Hopefully by that time, the former recalcitrants have moved on from junior footy, and the newbies will be too inexperienced and naive to have any knowledge of the AFL's previous gestapo tactics, nor have any concept that the AFL could be such a dysfunctional organisation.
Hopefully, they will (at least for a while) fall in and toe the company line.
... and eventually, when these new recruits realise that they are dealing with lightweight idiots who don't know how to run a chook raffle, so the cycle continues on ...
This approach works very well in Victoria, because for every 100 participants you crucify, there are another 1,000 waiting to take their place.
It doesn't work in Sydney, as there are too many well organised and well funded local options for parents and kids.
Still, it is the responsibility of those who are aware to forewarn the bright eyed bushy tailed potential volunteers of what to expect.
