How many teams are they fielding this year?

From what I can gather UTS are really just filling that gap in the Eastern Suburbs after East Sydney made their idiotic decision to let UNSW take them over thus destroying over 100 years of history. Of course they play out of Trumper too and making themselves the SA/VIC preferred College Boy destination is another point of differentiation. They are a weird club because my understanding is that the UTS connection is tenuous at best both in terms of the number of students they have and also the involvement the Uni has, financial and otherwise.

At some point you'd think their weight of numbers would translate into results at PD level but to date they have underwhelmed

My mail is, Moten has gone to GWS, Scown will player coach.

Etto to WAFL, Bevan gone, Ross and Milligan-Saville have left/leaving? Unsure

They are going to cop a few almighty floggings this year, and I for one, am going to enjoy it immensely......

AFL Swans champion Paul Bevan to head north after Vaucluse sale

AFL Swans champion Paul Bevan to head north after Vaucluse sale
The former AFL Swans premiership player Paul Bevan and partner Hailey Douglas have sold their Sydney apartment and are heading to Queensland.

They sold the 1960's Vaucluse apartment, with ocean glimshes for $835,000.

Ray White Double Bay selling agent James Keenan had $775,000 hopes for the top floor, two bedroom apartment.

The couple bought the north facing Military Road property for $570,000 in 2009.

Paul's retirement from the Sydney Swans prompted the pair to lease the property in 2012 as they moved to Perth.

Paul played for the Perth Demons in the Western Australia Football League for two years before heading back to Sydney where he was briefly an assistant coach at his former Western Suburbs junior sixde.

In 2005 he played in the Swan's first premiership win in 72 years. Bevan was called into the Swans' team three weeks out from the grand final, the last change coach Paul Roos made in the lead up to Sydney's four-point grand final victory.

His father, Graham, played for Canterbury, his grandfather and great grandfather played for the Roosters.

              Some interesting numbers

Wests - five out, zero in
UTS - five out, FORTY @@@@ING FIVE (45) In
Randwick - four out, 12 in
Penrith - 16 out and five in
A lot of clubs haven't done their clearances yet, or have only done a few. We'll get a better picture in a week of so when the clubs reveal their big names. I'm sure that Wests do have ins, but they haven't got around to registering them yet. It's always a burst of activity with clearance paperwork in the last few days before the season starts......

Maybe it's just that UTS are quicker with doing their paperwork, but 45 ins is seriously strong recruiting. They're fielding teams in Premier, Div 1, Div 2, Div 4 & Div 5 this year, plus the Shamrocks womens' team. Shouldn't have any problem filling those teams.

I drove past their training about a month ago. At least 100 on the field.

Half expecting them to withdraw their PD side this year a week before once they realise that the Div 1 cup and flag are the same size.

In all seriousness they could well be on the way to fielding a side in every division, numbers usually talk in the end...

You have to give credit to them, they have an amazing amount of numbers. The players that miss out there would fill a team I reckon. We can barely scratch two players together!

You'd probably need about 45 players on top of enough to fill each team because there are always injuries, exam and holiday periods, weddings etc. Unless you can commit to an extra team and guarantee games at the lower end, a lot of blokes drop off - we end up scratching to fill 22 in Div 5 during June and July but in April we could probably field 2 extra teams.

Most of their new recruits will never know how to get from Bondi to Broadway, and don't even know what U.T.S. stands for!

If you're a single 20 something coming to Sydney from any other state, you're not looking for digs at Penrith or Blacktown!

Rent a beachside apartment with some new team mates, get a job in the city, walk/cycle to one of the best facilities in town to train (best views anyway!), play some footy on the weekend, walk to whichever beach recovery is on at, then to the pubs and clubs.

... it's like Shangri-La for a young bloke who's grown up knowing nothing more than the brutal winters of Bleak City, or the bright lights of the City of Churches, or the local country football and netball social club ... no brainer really!
