Season 2016 - early days

You are such a bore. If players come to play NEAFL they stick with club they came from in Sydney AFL unless they fit a certain criteria which we have gone over on many occasions. Unless of course you think we would not select someone and then put them in Division One rather than send them back to their PD club.

As for not developing juniors I'm pretty sure our 19s team has a number of players from Drunmoyne, Glebe and Newtown which I believe are our nominated junior clubs - sure we don't have the luxury of St.George and their massive area and large junior comp but I guess we have other natural advantages. We also run clinics and training with those clubs so I'm not sure in which other ways we could develop them. But please share your ideas because we would love to learn from one of the greatest minds in Sydney football.

He could be right - maybe our 2016 recruiting was being finalised in August of last year while we were preparing for the NEAFL Finals.

8.13 to 1.0 when i left just before 3/4 time.

Blacktown actually looked a handy running side but lacked the skills where as camden individually looked ok 1 on 1 and just sat 2 back and made it scrappy with their bigger bodies.

Either way going to be a few years or 10 great recruits for either to make PD.

Final Score? What about the Under 19's?

We were very encouraged all round last night saviour!

Our starting 22 was all our Div 4&5 guys looking for a quick run; honestly there was maximum 4 first graders on the field in the first two halves, quarters, thirds whatever it turned out to be once the lights came back on!

Our final 22 was probably the opposite with only a handful of Div 4 boys finishing off with our first grade. Was a good hit out and we still have 6-8 genuine what we call our first graders that were not playing so we were very encouraged.

Not sure what the makeup of your team was but they are definitely well drilled especially on the turnover!

19's I didn't get to see much however was from what I hear around the club the most positive sign for the night. 5-7 academy kids to come back into that side and from what I am told they held their own for most of the game. These 19's are all mates that haven't played together for 2-3 years so they are loving their footy and will work together to be as competitive as they can in 2016.

Not sure final score, was 5.10 0.0 ht and then yeh 8.13 to 1.0 when I left with the goal coming from a 50m penalty.

19s looked competitive but seems like both sides held a lot of players out. Our bench was made up of the senior guys and most didn't get on and then 3 or 4 played in the seniors but we will always have a fair few playing div 1 or prems each week anyway.

Seniors still probably has another 8 or so to come back who will be in the top side but @@@@ me, how good is our ruckman earl shaw. He's going to be a handy pick up. For a div 2 (and 4/5) side v a prems side it wasn't too bad.

So, if for example, Baron-Hay and Hebron don't get a run in your NEAFL team then will they play for North Shore in PD that weekend or Sydney Uni?

If those two players were to play Premier Division, it would be for North Shore. Both played in North Shore's Under 19s Premiership side last year.

If a player studies at the Uni (or are an alumni), or if they are from Newtown, Glebe or Drunmoyne junior clubs, or their fathers played at the club or they played at the club prior to 2015 then they can play PD. That is my understanding. However they still may play 19s if eligible. I'm not sure about that. Otherwise they go back to their local clubs if not selected in NEAFL, as Stephen Wray and a few others did at times last year.

Likewise if a bloke comes up from
Melbourne and plays NEAFL, he is drafted to a Sydney AFL club as well. Unless any new player fits into the criteria above they can't play PD which is fair enough. The issue I have is that if a player comes from outside of Sydney and chooses, unsolicited, to play with us for whatever reason (location, mates at the club etc) and is of PD standard, we can't play him and are advised to send him elsewhere if he wants to play PD.

Any reports on North Shore Prem side? We are playing them in round 1 of the Div 2 comp.

Parra have 4 games against Prem Div reserves teams when their seniors are on a bye.
Others have less or none.
The bye in PD is untidy and compromises the lower grades.

What't the by-law? Only 3 blokes selected in Prems the week before can play down? Should be ok.

Usually injuries and stuff though where they come back through reserves.

We had Harry Green who was playing NEAFL at sydney uni play a div 1 game due to coming back from injury and prems having a bye. Got about 45 touches against southern power.

I see your point re the inter-staters, that does seem a bit unfair....

The idea is for guys at the top of the Sydney AFL level to be able to test themselves and give the NEAFL a crack if they want to, then when they're available they can go back and play with their club. I think given the environment we expose players to with respect to the standards, coaching, conditioning, rehab etc the players will hopefully go back as better footballers and in turn their club benefits.

I can understand why people from other clubs couldn't give a flying about the NEAFL but our aim is to showcase Sydney talent and give kids another pathway into the AFL. There would be no bigger reward for us as a club to be able to get someone like Lloyd Perris back onto an AFL list in 2017 or 2018. If we win a flag, great, but having a sustainable model and contributing to getting kids drafted like Redland do is what we really want to achieve at the NE level.

If someone moves to Sydney and hasn't played for a club the previous year there is nothing stopping them playing Prems for Sydney Uni as far as I understand it. Its only for players that have played the previous year for another club.

2 Unless they are Under 19's then they are exempt.
