Maybe just give the half a dozen flags and let them write whatever division, year or competition they like, hang them in the rooms .
Then put them in the correct divisions and make them compete where they should be . Get back to being fair to all clubs.
How Div 3 can be a 9 team Comp when Uts won the div 4 flag by a mile just doesn't stack up.Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Albert EinsteinComment

Would love to see a return of some kind of pre-season lightning comp somewhere in Sydney or NSW. And not some poorly thought out AFL9s comp that no-one cares about.
Wasn't that long ago that Dubbo had their comp, Sapphire Coast ran one out of Batemans Bay as far back as 2010. I think Uni New England still run the Tablelands Cup up north as well.
Wouldn't take much to get off the ground, if Hawkesbury Sports Council would give us summer access to the main ground at Bensons we'd give it a nudge, 2 grounds, 4 change rooms and a clubhouse.....only a few issues to get around, such as the smell of turf farms and flies as big as Blackhawks.Comment

And usually an opportunity for a club a year to make some really good money out of the catering.
As a general rule the club would provide the venue and the club's entry fees would pay the umpires. Any sponsorship the league could attract plus some league funding would then go to a prize but the net expense for the league would be $5,000 absolute tops.
It was best suited to multi ground venues - Hawkesbury and Mac Uni would be well suited, not sure of any other multi ground venues out there.
If you had 8 teams, you throw them into two groups of four with three group games, semi-finals and ranking matches and then a final. So the winning club could play five matches. Which seems like a lot but it's not really if you made them 12.5 minute halves.
There'd be two lots of six matches in the pool matches so with a five minute break and ten minutes between matches you'd get them finished in four hours (9.00 am to 1.00 pm). An hour lunch break followed by the semis and final and you'd all be wrapped up by 4.00pm.
Div 2 Clubs on the Saturday and Div 1 Clubs on the Sunday
Too simple a concept?Last edited by Mug Punter; 27 February 2016, 02:09 PM.Comment

The clubs in the top two "traditional divisions" would be expected to take a club based approach and if a side copped the occasional hiding then so be it, that's football. Any club that wasn't able to handle the rigours of such a comp or had insufficient depth would probably get relegated naturally anyway. In any event it's quite rare for a team with a strong first grade to not also have a decent reserves too so I doubt there's be an issues like the one you mention. Since those days there's effectively an additional three clubs in the mix in those two proposed comps that didn't exist back then (UTS, the Sydney Uni thirds and fourths and Randwick - it provides extra depthComment

My old mate Thainy had kicked 10 goals on me to half time. With the delivery he was getting from the mids, a one armed kid from Rwanda would've pulled those marks down! I did cover Thainy's face in his own concoction of belt grip and vasoline that he had applied to his guernsey. It eased some of the pain.
I was switched to full forward at half time due to massive blood loss from my nether regions. Thainy is not a gentle man. From there, I took quite a hanger on Mints' shoulders on the 50m line and proceeded to bomb a goal from outside the 50. Minutes later, I crumbed a pack after a very rare foray into our forward line and kicked a right foot goal. Opposite foot goals are worth two, for defenders playing forward, they should be worth 3.
Thainy went on to kick another 7 in the second half and seal a Bats club record I believe.
NOR WEST JETS 2.1 4.1 7.3 10.3-63
UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY 7.5 12.10 19.12 28.13-181
Not a fun day, but you have to remember the good and bad parts.
The missus sometimes asks why I wake up screaming 'Thainy nooooooooooo' sometimes. Gets a bit weird.Comment
