INS:- Wests have picked up three blue chip recruits - Nick Salter (coach) who I have had the pleasure to watch as a player quite a bit in Canberra and the NEAFL, and two players that he has brought with him from Canberra - O'Connell and Lagana. We are talking Selby Lee-Steere quality here and these three will make a difference to the Magpies.
OUTS:- North Shore has lost two of their development players to Sydney Uni NEAFL (Baron-Hay and Hebron) while Penno has lost Nathan Cooper. These guys were only part-time SFL players due to NEAFL commitments but they will be missed.

As far as per a previous comment about what happens to these players when they are not playing for Sydney Uni NEAFL, my understanding is that they are ineligible to PREMS with Sydney Uni while they are listed as NEAFL players.
The last I heard was that second-tier Sydney Uni NEAFL players get spread among PREM teams when they are not on NEAFL duty, but I think most SFL clubs would say, "Yeah Right" to that one ! Perhaps I'm a bit behind the times as to what happens to these guys on their non-required days.

The rules changed recently. Any NEAFL player from a Sydney AFL club has the option to play for that team in Premier Division if they so wish. Any non-AFL Sydney affiliated NEAFL players (e.g. someone from the SANFL or the bush) will be eligible for Uni PD. The mini-draft has been scrapped as the clubs felt it was a waste of time. We are also unable to recruit any player that played a minimum of one game for a Sydney AFL club in PD or U19s in 2016, unless that club agrees to a release (or the player is studying at SU).

They are the Richmond Tigers of our comp....

Their ground is superb, they do the catering bbq you get in heaven, Anzac Day is wonderful, new scoreboard, name players, a licensed club to bring in the $$$$$$, incoming players from Campbelltown, Gerrad Bennett, Paul Bevan, Zoppo.......but every year they manage to perform badly and disappoint spectators like me who want them to succeed.

Can they succeed this season ? Well, I'll be there, chowing down on a Magpie Burger to find out

Goannas have finally sorted out their senior coaches for the year (mid January !!) and it seems that Jarjoura, the one-season-wonder, didn't make the cut.
I'm sure that this is a great surprise to us all...not !!

All the best for the season to the Goannas who must be feeling that they are way behind where they were this time last year.

I still don't reckon he is worth the @@@@ he brings, especially not for the money he commands to play div 1. Handy player, but completely changes the culture of the club.

Pre Jarjoura they were inviting us in for beers after the match and was played in a good spirit. Last 2 years every young kid you play gets cheap shotted after every disposal.

But as their supporters said "you would love to have him!" no thanks, we don't pay bloke to play reserves.

First post from me and love the chat.
There are already some good players at Wests, so a few good ins should make them pretty competitive.
UNSW/ES have got a number of talented kids who will improve and the changes to the rules around players who don't make the NEAFL list will boost Sydney Uni.
Jai Lyons will be a loss for UTS, so it'll be interesting to see what they do to cover.
Overall - expecting the comp to tighten up.
East Coast and St George should still be the bench mark though.
We'll have 5 or 6 kids going up to the NEAFL/VFL/SANFL, but there are a few good ins too and plenty of opportunity for the kids coming through. Good vibe building so hopefully we'll be there abouts - can't wait!!

Olds is looking very good. Picket fence 90% completed, auto sprinklers and water tanks have the grass very green. Not sure if I prefer the wide turf pitch or the old @@@@ one, but the new groundsman is fantastic.

New scoreboard has arrived, canteen fit out almost complete. New gym being put to good use! Well done to Brendan and committee for securing the funds and putting them to good use.

                      A couple of changes.

                      1. In the past players who were listed in the 35 who weren't Sydney Uni students, or who weren't grandfathered from the prior to the rule changes, went into the draft and were allocated to another Sydney AFL club. So they couldn't play for Sydney Uni. Not the case now. These players can play for Sydney Uni in Prem's if not selected in the NEAFL.

                      2. Players coming from outside Sydney AFL to trial for Sydney Uni NEAFL who didn't make the list and who weren't Sydney Uni students, had to go to another Sydney AFL club (of their choice). Also no longer the case. These players can now play for Sydney Uni at Prem Div level.

With the attractor of the NEAFL program and these restriction removed, you'd have to think that Sydney Uni will get pretty strong pretty quickly.

Also - well done to St George. Very hard to get that kind of cash and great to see Sydney footy facilities being developed.

Your coach has worked with Jajoura previously so he might be happy to have him in his side again.

I was hoping you'd say that the club has built a soundproof cage over beyond the soccer field for some of your meat head supporters from the scoreboard precinct. Or a light-rail along the bicycle track to shift them down to the bottom of the hill.

But, like Bomber says, it's a great effort for your club to come out of the doldrums as it has done and now having ground improvements like that.

Mudgee was a spectator v them last year as prems had the bye. Jewy twice took a mark 50 out on the boundary, gave mudgee and absolute gobful on his way back and slotted it both times and then gave it to him again. Based on what i saw id say it would be a def no. I think X said something to him as well because they played together down in Vic and he said "id never play for him again".

Yeh id better lay off the beers this year, starting to get a bit out of hand on the score board.

Can't wait to test out the new canteen. I always thought it was one of the best in our comp - maybe a little pokey inside for the caterers, but the service is always fast and friendly, food is good, pies are always hot and tasty.
All that's left for you guys is to get rid of some of the Saturday arvo traffic jams in Peakhurst !
