Nuttsy - I'll agree, we tried some things similar to you guys. Didn't work, we've reset.
We also played the top 2 teams not long ago and we know where we are at as a club. But we are also trying to think bigger.

HoldingTB - fair point mate, worst thing is HQ don't see that stuff. They just like seeing round numbers and probably wouldn't even know what is happening within each club.

The "Radical Call' from Tom Wills might be the answer so who knows.
There's nothing wrong with trying to think bigger, but to constantly come on here saying that $W$ is doing nothing but just paying money out to every player to try to get to Premier Division is Laughable. They have missed out on Many players they have spoken to on the basis of what other clubs, including yours, have been willing to pay. Like i have said on many occasions its about getting Quality people involved with your club, some you have to pay, many you don't, if you provide an environment that is attractive. SWS are more than aware of this, anyone that takes the time to speak to them and see what they are putting into place rather than just listen to hearsay knows that. Simply paying players never lasts.

Look at clubs like Penno, always competitive, fantastic record and never splashed money around at all.

Advocate Please explain how I love coming on here? I have only posted once here in direct response to the so called dollars we are spending - no response given though which only confirms that the person was posting was throwing mud without substance. I deliberately avoid posting because of the amount of BS surrounding this and I am getting too old to deal with crap. Ill leave that up to clubs or people associated with them that create fake profiles that deliberately defame / slander peoples reputations as we have recently seen here.

Tara...as one of the few who understand the platinum league, what are your thoughts on "what if SWS, Parra and Camden were all promoted" ?

Tom the current junior competition is not strong enough to sustain 3 teams being promoted presently and if anything could lead to them falling apart. Would love to see all three representing the Western Sydney region if it was. When the pathways that Garry Burkinshaw introduced were removed the region went backwards, introduce a similar scheme that keeps kids in the region they are from and reward clubs who actively develop their junior base then it might eventually be sustainable.

Would it actually work as a merged entity representing Western Sydney? Wouldn't think so as people get invested in their own identities.
The Giants have come in and messed things up enough, why not have them on the hook to provide a Premier Seniors and Ressies as their 3rd and 4th grades (AFL/VFL at the too clearly) under the auspices of development and ROE to Sydney footy. Their Academy players could provide the bulk of squad plus top ups from around the city and state, play out of Blacktown and maybe miss their imminent finals runs like the Redbacks once did?
I dunno.....no one is up to fill the gaping void that is the Western Suburbs. Camden tried their best but the gap was too big. Time to think outside the box. Makes all games a higher standard as a default. Build pathways to Premier for kids at junior clubs not linked to a current Prems club.

SWS have the money, facilities and on-field success across multiple men’s grades to warrant promotion to Prems.

Camden aren’t too far behind but will need to establish a 19’s program, which may take a bit of time. Last thing the league would want to do is rush them back into Prems having been badly burnt only recently.

Parra are miles of even consideration for Prems. They’ve recruited heavily this year, whether that’s paid or not I’m not sure, but onfield results have been pretty poor for what they’re aspiring to do.

Finally got out to watch these so called Prems teams get on at a oval (Rosedale oval)I had yet to visit in what was a windy day elsewhere but the conditions were okay for football Saturday evening. First half was all SWS with glimpses of what Camden had come to offer. Camden then had the run in the legs to over power them in the third then it was an absolute wrestle for the last qtr with eventual winners Camden becoming victorious. Caught up with a umpire on pure luck while heading to my car after the game and asked why they had 3 field umpires and he words were “these teams have a rivalry and reputation in this comp so why not put 3 (yep 3) prems umpires in the middle” and my words were okay how did this game compare and he then said it was a fluent game with some very physical contests but couldn’t state on how either teams would go with an elevation.

Points to add from a bystander watching… Lighting were very substandard for a high quality game and I’m sure the players and umpires would agree. ( almost wouldn’t even suffice for training)

Siren was horrendous with players or spectators hardly hearing and only knowing when each qtr was over by watching scoreboard and it also ticked past zero with SWS almost kicking a goal beyond the timer.

Crowd was very surprising with SWS holding their old boys day but I even thought Camden had equivalent and if not more there then SWS, with Camden being the more vocal I thought from sitting in between both benches.

Other than that it was a great probe away from the premier league and seeing what could eventuate from what has been speculated on this forum,I’m also lucky enough not to be the shoes of deciding what happens next year in regards to promotion and relegation.

In a year of no major upsets, Wests really have decided they wanna screw around the top teams late. Wouldn’t wanna be fighting for finals positions and see them on your fixture now. Absolutely flying all of a sudden.

Have watched a few games of Platinum this season and even Camden and SWS are a Loooooong way off Premier Division (Particularly the top end). SWS look very heavy with some big bodies so am not surprised they were run over by Camden on Rosedale which is a big deck.

Rosedale is a great surface but lighting and facilities are extremely poor, especially given they've hosted Shield or 2nd eleven cricket there.

No doubt SWS are aspiring to play at the Premier Div level and would no doubt recruit and attract more talent if they were elevated but their current list wouldn't win a game in Premier Division (Including East Coast). They've clearly got something good going on down there with the amount of teams they have running around is significantly higher than most other clubs. So good luck to them.

Doubt Camden would want to head back up and Parramatta are even further behind.

Would love to see some new flavour at the top of the Men's Prems in the coming years but its hard to see how.

                          Not long until finals time!!

Maybe Im not aware of it but one thing that surprises me at Prems level is why the clubs that consistently finish in that realm below the top three or four don't actively chase players on the fringe of prems in the top one or two clubs.

Take North Shore this year. There reserve grade team is also undefeated this year, so it surprises me that clubs who are a few players below being competitive , dont look at who is maybe missing out on a regular prems spot in that squad and chase them to offer them a permanent spot in their squad.

Does this happen? From the chat on here it seems it happens more at Platinum level than at Prems level.

That’s not just a North Shore thing. Penno, Sydney Uni, UNSW and St George have been up there in ressies for quite a while and apart from a few boys going ‘home’, there haven’t been many change clubs.

Why would they. They could play ‘Prems’ at other clubs, but it’s not really Prems is it.

Maybe Im not being clear - Im not having a go at North Shore , Im saying that Im surprised that Pennant Hills for example who seem to me to be a rung or two below Norths this year dont seek out a player or two to lift them to that next rung next season (or are you that one eyed Bomber that you wouldnt consider playing at Penno really "Prems" .

It seems that most teams to improve either hope to :
                                1. pick up a few interstaters coming to Sydney or
                                2. Get development from their juniors coming through.

As a general rule , Im guessing most in 1. , would seek out the most successful clubs if they are a decent player themselves which doesnt help the next rung of team down the ladder and point 2 would tend to favour those clubs with bigger junior bases so North Shore, UNSW and to some degree Penno might have a leg up. While it may be argued that the point system is meant to stop players all going to the strong clubs, it doesnt because of point 2 . That is , they have such a strong junior base that half or more of their team can be one point players which allows them to take whichever of the cream comes along.

While this remains the status quo , the prems comp will remain in its current state where three clubs essentially dominate , two or three float in and out of the top rung depending on whether they have a good junior base and those with little or no strong junior base continue to make up the numbers.

If Im North Shore, UNSW or Uni , Im happy with that but I can see why thats not necessarily good for the competition as a whole
