personally,i dont think you will hear much out of the Eagles Nest this week...should be a fair bit of running and team meetings this week, and maybe next,as they prepare to face the Juggernaut that is Wests...but if thats true about kicking up a stink, then nothing changes in Sydney.

Another example of people on redandwhite who know very little going off half-cocked...

The under 18's comp setup was changed after consultation with ALL clubs!

It was decided that in the best interest of footy that the divisional split would be changed.

This will mean that both under 18 competitions will be competitive. As it was looking, there would have been at least 1 club (whoever that was to be) that was going to find themselves in the lower division and winning by 200 point margins every week. Wow, that would really make for some great under age football. Also the change in the setup will mean that it will be much easier to structure a draw where all grades from each club will be able to play at the same ground. This is surely something that everyone would like.

I commend the governing body for making this decision - IN CONSULTATION WITH ALL CLUBS - and the correct thing was to make the decision before the weekends games.

As for the comments about "kicking up a stink" and "Friends in high places" - get real guys. You're complete lack of ability to look at the facts has exposed you as the narrow minded fools that you are. Thank god that those people with common sense are making the decisions and not the self proclaimed knowledge kings who write on this forum

Here's to a healthy, and competitive under age competition. Good luck to all clubs

if we were all to put fully researched and completely accurate posts on this forum Lensman, there wouldnt be much to read!a wise man once said "opinions and a@#eholes-we all have em and they're all divided"not always correct, but still there to be aired.for years there has been "top" and "bottom" clubs, even areas, believe me,im from Blacktown.the fact that Shearer and Peanut mentioned "friends in high places" is because they probably witnessed some "friends in high places" back slapping in the past.it was rife a few years ago.

Interesting Lensman that you said all clubs approved of the new league. I know at 5pm saturday afternoon Wollongong didnt have a clue that the comp had been revamped.

Pekay i never mentioned "friends in high places", i did say that one of the clubs might of kicked up a stink.

So Lensman you can honestly say that no club asked the league to look at revamping the comp when they were under threat of making division 1?

In saying all this i think the final 9 rounds will give us good competitive football and it will be better for the league that these teams play each other.

Opinions are always welcomed on Red and White but I think that when people start taking uninformed shots at other individuals or as in this case clubs using assumed names in a public forum it may be what leads to the thoeries that you guys are talking about of friends in high places and influential clubs.

The way I understand it the discussions had been going on for some time and the main concern was that we have two competative under age competitions in Sydney where young players can improve their footy skills and eventually add to the rapidly increasing senior talent pool in the SydAFL. Is this not how Wests and Balmain have made their improvments.

Also I think people should be very careful using the term "big spending" when refering to the U/18 competition as I would be very surprised if anyone could honestly say that any club was paying under age players. I understand that the comment was aimed at the Eagles recruitment drive but context can be confusing. (Name me a senior side in Sydney who is not paying players.)

Again opinions are what drive this sight and all that post here are interested in the improvement of Sydney footy at all levels so maybe sometimes we should think before we post.

P.S. Pekay I can't remember the last time Bubble played in a rp team it was probably the Rams. He always plans his personal time around byes and rep weekends and I guess he always will.

Penno and wests are both looking hard to beat. Shall be interesting to see how ECE go this week.
The standard in the first half from Pennant Hills was very impressive. They took their foot off the gas at half-time when the game was won which gave the Eagles a chance to salvage something from the game.
As for grand finallists, it'd be hard to go past Penno v Wests at this point in time; but there's a long way to go. Looking back to 2003, UNSW-ES were nowhere near the 4 at this stage of the season but came good when it mattered to win the comp. We've now got 4 teams level on games 2 games behind the top 2, and any one of them if they can find their best form could challenge.

Looks like I opened a pandora's box when I mentioned the U18s may have been changed. The changes make sense considering how the northern & southern region have unfolded, but it's unfortunate they weren't able to be notified better. There's no official notification of a change to the U18s structure on the SydneyAFL website - I only knew about if because a couple of clubs sent email newsletters that hinted at it.
Unfortunately the SportingPulse part of the SydneyAFL website gave up the ghost over the weekend, so they still haven't been able to update all those details. It was good they put up a news article with the Saturday results, but unfortunately there's still no sign of that other U18s result.
And apologies for the typo on the ladder on this week's news article - with no ladder available on the Sydney AFL website I worked it all out on a spreadsheet, but somehow managed to give Wollongong a 2-game winning streak. Should have been L2.
