So should we trade Willo and Kirk to help us draft some youth?

I'm still confused as to how Saddo, Doyle or pick # 19 will help us get a flag in the next three years more than Everitt would help!Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

A risk.
If I remember correctly, Ball didnt have a great year. He's not irreplacable.Comment

Over at the BigFooty Cats site his nickname seems to be Sarge or, less auspiciously, Unco. But they all seem quite glad for him - and think it was done as much for his sake as for the team.Comment

Its all theoretical of course, but I'm confused as to how Everitt will help get us a flag within 3 years at all. His best years are behind him. God knows what injuries he's carrying. And his attitude doesnt seem to fit the Swans style.
A risk.

He could easily play 40% ruck next year and then gradually wind that back to becoming a permanent full forward.
This provides us with an experienced ruckman to support Jolly while he and the other younger ruckmen develop, plus a great tall forward option.
These things would suggest that our team in 2006 and 2007 could be better than our team in 2005.
I don't see how pick #19 (or Doyle or Saddo) will improve our team next year or the year after.
Who knows what injuries anyone is carrying or will get. One assumes the club would do its homework on his physical state.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

There were games this year that Spida basically carried the whole Hawks team. He's an exception ruckman and if he comes to us, we have to presume he'll be trying hard - and his best will give supply to our midfield that they have not had before. Our clearances should improve dramatically as we get more clean possession instead of scrambling for the ball.
And he's a dangerous forward and a good kick for goal. Right now, if Magic is injured - or Baz - then we are in trouble. Spida would give us an option that greatly strengthens the team.
I suspect that the Spida trade won't happen. But I think the Swans already have a good shot at back to back premierships as a lot of players are just coming up to their potential. If we get Spida I'd say our chances could improve by 10% - and that's huge.
My reservation here is his attitude. But I have faith that the Swans coaching staff have decided he's alright. And I have faith in their judgement. We'll know within 48 hours anyway.Comment

I'm not saying Everitt isnt a good ruckman, but half of hawthorn made the AA team, so thats not a glowing endorcement.
Everitt would be a risk, but hey, he might give us a better shot at a flag. He was worth pick 6 and 26 (I think) 3 years ago. Therefore his market value IS a LOT less now with only 1 or 2 years left in him.
Therefore, he is DEFINATELY NOT worth #19, Doyle AND Saddo.
He may be worth Doyle or Chambers plus Saddo, absolute tops.
....or pick #19 on its own. But I'd rather not lose the pick.Comment

Just been reading cats' supporters opinion of the chambers trade....
They don't seem to be shattered but at the same time, they are surprised to have traded him ( given the injury prone ruckmen they have in Ottens and King)
His nickname is " bomber"
Hasnt had a lot of game time but the consensus (sp?) was that when he did play, he always gave 100% on the field ( good for the "no ********head rule")Who the @@@@ are Man United??

Everitt can help deliver another premiership in the next three years, but Doyle and Saddo probably won't.
Still, not sure if we should include pick 19 too.
If he is staying with them, the Hawks must have messed this up badly.Comment

That pick will get us nothing in the way of a flag in the next 2 or 3 years compared to what Spida can potentially offer. The short-term positives in Spida far outweigh what is essentially a pick #19 punt on a kid who may or may not help us to another flag 5 or more years down the track.
Thinking beyond swans supporters, another flag in the next couple years will be a magnificent boost for AFL footy in NSW if we can continue to ride this wave of success - having Everitt on the list will only increase our chance of further success in the short-term future.Comment
