not sure how a thread on paul chambers has turned into a spida debate. Im all for getting spida still if we can. We are at the top of the afl tree now, and have to take as many shots at the title as we can, if it fails then fine we set about chopping players and rebuilding.

At the moment we are a contender and must trade accordingly. I think chambers has some promise and i wish him all the best, him and doyle will fight for a spot i imagine!

I saw someone mentioned balls form wasnt that great at times this year. He was good, a lot of what he did was sitting on his bum, but he often was there at the crucial moments and helped jolly a LOT. With doyle or chambers as support Jolly has a lot more pressure on him. That is why for a tilt at the flag everitt would still be awesome, he is a good forward as well.

Ps i remember saying jolly would be in our best 22 when we traded for him last year and people said it was rubbish. Chambers may be a sensation!
Theres not much left to say

last year I thought that a 1st ound pick (15) for Jolly was too much - however look at the end result !

We initially offered our 2nd round pick (31) plus Powell but the Dees played hard ball and won out

Lets respect the decision of the coaching/recruiting staff to give
      this kid Chambers a go

      1 .we haven't given away a lot

      2. The kid is not a di**head - cats fans reckon he gives 100%

      3. Look at our record in developing players

      4. We have not traded away a premiership player

      5. This could really motivate Doyle, Erickson and Shaw

Lets now focus on getting high picks or quality players for

      Powell and Saddington

Until we see what's happening with Doyle, we may still need a ruckman. Hawthorn was making noise about wanting Sydney to provide them with a ruckman. Doyle might come into calculations for that reason.

Chambers is most likely being viewed as a more reliable third stringer than Doyle. So if we land Spida, the improvement in the ruck stocks is two-fold. We get a replacement for Ball, and a third stringer without chronic injury worries.

Make no mistake. Our ruckman 'play' WAS the Chambers deal. There will be no additional deal struck for Everitt and so say the Hawks.

... and we still have some bargaining chips for other players.

I guarantee you that the Spida deal is still on if they can convince the Hawks.

Jolly, Chambers and Doyle = an inexperienced, vulnerable-to-injury ruck division.

Everitt, Jolly and Chambers = a premiership winning ruck division.

That's how wide the gulf between Everitt and Doyle is.

Definitely it is still on. Can Chambers play down back ?? Could he be the backup tall defender we need?

As far as ruckman position is concerned however, no longer the cards are all with the Hawks now.

We cant ontrade players officially but if we have not submitted the form, we could also opt out or put him in contact with someone else .

The trade has been sent by fax to the AFL. That constitutes filing the paperwork. Chambers is now a Swan.

Can't agree with you on this one Charlie for the simple reason, as explained on another thread, that we have nothing really to offer to the Hawks. Pick 19, plus Saddo, plus Powell, plus :insert unrequired AFL player: will not help Clarko turn around the Hawks next year, or into the future.

Well.. yeah, compared to what they might get in return.

It's been said before on other threads that IF Spida is for sale, it will take a high draft pick AND an under 25YO starting player to secure him .. and that's too high a price for the SWANS .. and why we went down the Chambers route.

I have read an allegation at big footy that Chambers was a fullback in the VFL; maybe the plan is for him to be a kpp and not a ruckman.
