I thought Doyle really picked his game up in the 2nd half. And throughout he was strong in thr ruck - it was just his skills elsewhere on the ground that let him down.

I was disappointed by Chambers. Richards has come in and shown good promise for the season, but I didn't see anything to get excited by in Chambers.

But to be fair, that was the first time I've seen him play and I'm not going to write him off at all just yet. Got to give the fella some time to settle in before making a judgement.

It's a bit early and easy to be writing off players.

Doyle hasn't played in a year and will need time to get back to full fitness and confidence.

His form at the end of 2004 was superb so there's no reason why he can't get back.

This reminds me somewhat of a thread May/June last year...we will never win a Premiership under Roos, Micky finished, LRT will never make it et al.....

6 weeks short in preparation, a scratch side, a stinking hot day, most players would not know each other yet.

Let's chill out and give 'em a chance eh?

The Big Donk is a potentially very important player particularly up forward as we have some of the most dangerous goal crumbers in the comp. Showed some good signs, read the game pretty well, took some good marks and kicked a nice goal. Suggest that a few ruckmen are going to be exposed for speed and agility under the new ridiculous rule of the instant balls up imposed by genius Andy D

Considering how well he improved during the games, all goes well if he can string at least 10 games together in a row.

He just needs to play for an extended period to blow away the cobwebs and improve his fitness.

There is no doubt he can play when fit and firing.

I thought Doyle we ok as the game went on, had a few nice taps. I remember later in the game he kicked a goal then a few minutes after took a mark in the back pocket, so he was making position around the ground ok.

I would think everyone at the Swanswould be pleased with his game given the conditions - pre season etc. But always can he get through a season? bonus if he does.

                    Cheers

Needs a few more games under his belt. He can only improve with game time.

I predict he'll play the first six games, getting progressively better each game, leading many RWOers to opine how good he is and will be. Then he'll snap some vital ligament or other putting him out for the rest of the season and possibly ending his career. Of course, I hope I'm wrong about the last bit.

Don't think I'm defending Andy D, but I'm pretty sure something like this would come under the jurisdiction of the bloke that can only be called AA.

Not just galloping dinosaurs, all ruckmen will be caught out by this change. The instant ball ups and boundary throw ins are simply a return to the way it used to be in the 60?s. Most teams had two ruckmen on ball in those days, so the common solution was for one of them to stay a kick behind the play. Even then, with no interchange and lower fitness levels ruckmen often failed to get to a throw in. This year, I would expect mobile types like Goodes and Hall to take more throw in responsibility when either the Electrolux man or Donkey can?t make the contest.
