To answer the question as truthfully as possible, a true supporter, IMO, is anyone who makes the time and effort to watch the game every week be it on tele or at the ground. That's enough for me. If you barrack for the Swans and then actually arrange bits of your life to see them, then you count as far as I'm concerned.
Now you can then get to various gradations of how hard core a fan you are......
My wife is a St. Kilda supporter who has been badly infected by the Bloods of 2005....found herself going "yes" at the tele in the 4th quarter of the prelim (I was at the game) and got a bit perturbed.
Anyway what with an 8 month old and other various things she doesn't even bother to watch the Saints when I have turned the tele on to them...keeps going "shall we watch that Cold Case we've got taped?" so she doesn't qualify as a footy fan even though she is a member.
