I fully agree. I don't get a sense that we dislike Sydneysiders. In fact you are more likely to find other Melbourne club's supporters wanting Sydney to win rather than a opposition Melbourne club. Of course that is changing now that we are perceived as more of a threat to their own teams ladder postion.

I can understand it in the context of two separate colonies jostling for pre-eminence in the years leading up to Federation.

But as you say, it seems a bit out-dated now.

Of course not, you need to flex your muscle around here right? Its part of being a RWO mod.

I think a lot of this has to do with where we are in the season. Last night was about controlling the game, playing like a team, and most importantly, winning.

We may well see a lot more risk taking as the season unfolds, and the best way to beat a flood is to kick over it to a powerful forward line. Unless the team is very good at clearing it out when the attack fails, since they dont have anyone to go to in their own forward line there is less risk of conceding goals at your own end.

what i really love, is that when Carlton were flooding..the commetnary team called it "ZONING BACK", when we did it... we were "FLOODING"

hmm .. seriously... do they think we are that daft we dont notice this stupid bias. I'm so over it. But i laughed in satisfaction when after "Shake Down the THunder" ended RObert Walls with his ugly mug appeared to start the game haha!! What a lead in to his ego show!

No mention anywhere in this article about the Blues' extra 10 men in defence for much of the game.

Or how about when they show the sydney forward 50 empty? Not once when Carlton flooded last night did they do this. Not once.

I just am sick and tired of how the media is in this country and how much they manipulate situtations. You can thank a lot of simple Australians for being dumb enough to allow the media to do this.

The same happens when adelaide plays, they are a great defensive unit who get back in numbers and help out each other. The sign of a great defensive team. Yet the swans are just ubber flooders who are ruining the game.

              Go figure!

It is always Sydney who are responsible for any flooding, rule number one of any AFL "Journalist"
Of course we know this is not the case, but there will always be those that believe what they want to.

That is the problem. That is why shows like ACA and TT have been around for ever. There is a big majority who seem to believe everything the media says and will defend them as fact till they are blue in the face.

                  It astounds me.

In a AFL perspective whatever the Melbourne media spoon feeds to the masses, they will blindly accept it as gospel.
Just so happens one of there agendas is Sydney and flooding, it won't be the last time Sydney are accused of boring football this season (rightly or wrongly)

I dont understand why so many people complain about 'chipping round the back' - many times when we did remain patient and chipped across the back an opportunity opened up up the ground and we were able to make a penetrating kick forward and enter our attacking 50.
I thought the idea was good - it allowed us to control the game (tmepo and possession) which is something we definately haven't done so far this year.
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

It staggers me how often they ignore him. At one stage I think it was Buchanan running into the F50. Both Davis and O'Loughlin led. MOL was near the boundary line and Davis on a 45 deg angle. Both in the clear, both easy passes. It was passed to O'Loughlin. No wonder he can kick so many goals - he's our main target at full forward even when not the best option.

We have what could be 4 of the most prolific goal scorers going around in Hall, MOL, Davis and O'Keefe. It frustrates the hell out of me watching the players up the ground being so two dimensional in their delivery.

O'Keefe runs hard across half forward to offer an option, but to put it to Davis one out up front makes a lot of sense also. He would beat his opponent most times.

I just love watching Davis when he has the ball. He is so exquisitly skilled and balanced. Why we dont use him more more/better is beyond me.

Sadly, I've found more of the Sydney/Melbourne rivalry on here than in real life. Most of the rivalry I have been involved in has been tongue in cheek with no bitterness at all.

But then I think that those who find the bias and beat up on it all of the time choose to do it and/or be offended.

I reckon he is one of the most skillful players in the league, I love watching him when his team mates actually realise he is clear. He has it over the opposition skillwise for probably 99% of the players in the league.

In the 90's North Melbourne used Pagan's Paddock (think about what this means - all players behind the ball, with Carey one out. Flooding by another term.)
Adelaide uses it's fitness to get run hard back into defence
