They weren't just too high to begin with because of where he wsa taken in the draft? He only had 10 disposals, I thought most of them were good and he was looking to be clever but quick with his use of the ball, more of his natural game at reserves level (where he really is a star and is ahead of the other young midfielders looking for a senior spot) than his usual seniors level speed (I don't think he is slow at all; I think he has just been nervous as all hell in the past, and still is now, but it seems to force him to overthink the options when usually his first decision is correct anyway). He seemed to have a bit more confidence and wasn't falling over in contests quite as easily, I was ecstatic when he backed himself to go long to Goodes from HF.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Love the drumming last night JF - got the whole crowd on that side into the chant!
And the man who started it, the Schneiderman, can kick his third for the quarter. And the swans are in the Grand Final!

If he can continue to do that and then develop the confidence to actually begin playing well and making a valuable contribution I will be very pleased. I'm still not convinced he can.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I realize it is a "love to see him do it, just not sure he will" thing more than a rampant dislike. I was discussing just that with a football genius/crimina mastermind last night, people need to get when we are critical of folks it doesn't mean at all we wish them to fail; even LRT!

Giving him an extended run in the seniors so he doesn't have to worry so much about where he is playing next week is just the sort of thing that Roos can do to win back my favour.

Were you at the game NMW? He was very important to uus last night, but a lot of his work was off the ball. In one passage of play, he had the ball kicked just over his head in our forward line, but he then ran 120m into our defence to affect a tackle which dislodged the ball and resulted in us getting a throw in. With his new hairdo he was easy spot and was in the action consistently throughout the night.

It doesn't get reflected well in the TV coverage (which I watched on Fox after getting home).

It was great to see a lot of the desperation in our tackles and 1% return last night. Our skills still were not right up there and our inaccuracy could have proven costly but there was a glimpse of the 2005 Swans out there last night.

Thought Willo tackled, harassed, ran and intercepted little handpasses and kicks more than in a long time and summed up a lot of what the team did well last night.

Hall looked better, ROK continued presenting, Craig Bolts had his best game of the year (and is one of the best kicks from long range) and Schnieder kicked 4. Good signs last night and can only hope we continue and gain some momentum over the Brions next Sunday.

PS Great to belt out the song after the win last night!

Wouldn't Jarrod "The Seagull" McVeigh win that contest hands down?

Three things struck me on Sat night (and luckily Paul Chapman wasn't one of them):

                        1. Homebush suits our style of game much better than the SCG. It's easier to break into space when there's more space, and harder for an opponent to shut you down by dropping a player (or players) back. Geelong played a good portion of the night with a loose man a kick behind play when they were in attack. The tactic failed dismally-- Sydney won the ball more often (aided by the extra man they had at the contest), and then had plenty of space to run the footy or pinpoint a leading player, so Geelong's loose man never entered the equation.

                        2. Malceski's style and role in the team is very very similar to McVeigh's. If not for the helmet, I wouldn't have been able to tell them apart when the ball was down the far end of the ground. In the longer term, hopefully we will be able to fit both of them in. (As late as early 2005, people were saying that there was no way that we could play Bucky and Schneider in the same team.) However, in the shorter term, if we have to drop a player, you're most at risk if you duplicate what another player can do. McVeigh did some useful things (esp the goal assist in the last 1/4), but he spends too much time looking for the perfect 'show-off' pass when what's needed is to move the ball quickly. No prizes for guessing who's in front in any head-to-head selection battle when Davis comes back.

                        3. Super Ted: completely lacking in presence and confidence. Managing to play very short for his (supposed) size. Unless he finds something very very soon, no prizes for guessing who I think should take his place in the backline. (Think: premiership medal and pout.)

                        My votes:
                        J Bolton 3
                        B Hall 2
                        A Goodes 1

How on earth could McVeigh get votes!?!

I'm staggered that Goodes would get votes.

I think Schneider was clearly better than either and probably Williams, Kennelly and C Bolton too.
