I know he's been a good and consistent player over a number of years. However, he may have done well in the past but Nic Martin made him look silly a couple of weeks ago. He's a poor kick relative to most of our players and is not physically strong enough to match it one on one

First of all, great to have the site back!!
A great effort for the team to claim the minor premiership. That drop in form has hopefully been sorted but still leaves me feeling much more nervous about our capabilities against the other stronger sides. The best thing about the Hawks and Bulldogs game is that one of them is not going past week one!
Now, although I wouldn't be too disappointed if Lloyd was to miss out, I can't see it happening. It would be a huge call and there's just about zero precedent of Longmire making those types of calls. I'm hoping all of McCartin, Heeney, Papley and McInerney are named. If they are, I don't think it matters too much who comes out as they are all very highly rated players who will make the side much stronger.
I just hope we can play to our potential. If we do, we will be very hard to beat. Go Swans!Comment

I would classify Fox as unlucky too, even though I suspect he'll be one to make way. (More unlucky, certainly, than Cleary, who has made a bright start to his AFL career but has nothing close to the runs on the board that Fox does.)Comment

Liz I have followed this site for many years and now contribute (if you can call it that) I know many of us value your considered opinion, can you tell us who you think makes way for (Jmac, McCartin, Heeney and Paps) IF all pass fit and why?Comment
-
Fox is the ideal sub due to his versatility and experience. I think Heeney and McCartin come in for Phillips and……… Give Paps and JMac a bit more time as we’ll need them in the GF!Comment
-
I think that, as they have not been playing lately. Paps & JMac need to play prior the GF (considering they make it) so as to get match fitness.Comment

Longmire doesn’t do big team changes, so Heeney and McCartin will be in for Francis and one other, probably Cleary if Papley is also back.
Then I think one of Papley or McInerney come in for the first final, and the second comes in for the second final.
Very unfortunate for Adams who helped us get the minor premiership, especially in the early part of the season, but his form suggests he would be one to come out given how well Parker has played.
Longmire did drop Logan for the 22 GF so he is capable of dropping someone a big name for team balance.
But with Reid breaking down in the same GF, he would also be wary of Papley or McInerney not being fully fit for a must win final.
Going to be heartbreak for a few players if we win the GF.Comment

Good to have the site back, though does look strange.
Fox is the interesting one. I think he needs to be the sub for every final. Is easily the most versatile and can cover pretty much all positions.
Wouldn't play J Mac in the first final, too many changes + he has been out a while.
In: Heeney, McCartin, Papley
Out: Adams, Francis, Cleary (VERY unlucky)
J Mac to come in for Campbell or Roberts if they don't play well. If they do play well then he will need to wait.Comment

I wasn't arguing that Fox won't be one to make way. Just that if (when) he does, I think he can consider himself unlucky. Francis is really the one who knows he's not in consideration unless we lose Rampe, McCartin or Melican. Cleary probably realises he's an extreme long shot.Comment

Pretty straight forward in my opinion bar one.
In Heeney, McCartin, Papley and Jmac
out Cleary, Francis, Fox, and ?
Francis - no Brainer
Roberts is excellent with his calm head under pressure and when not under pressure he is an elite kick and he is needed in the backline now that Florent is not there anymore.
Campbell is excellent when he plays with a bit more freedom which he is not going to get in the finals and I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays in week 1 of finals and then doesn’t do much and gets dropped for the next week. If Campbell can give us a couple of goals either goals or goal assists then he stays for week 2. Coz he is going to give us missed tackles and changers.
Fox - Excellent replacement at both ends and wing but with mills and Parker back I think that is well covered given we have players who keep moving positions every 15 min within the game. So he misses out as he is good but not great.
Adams - can do one job and in our team of flexible players he Rowbottom and Brodie Grundy are the inflexible ones. Nevertheless he is not playing well and most likely misses out.
Cleary - playing well but maybe not needed in Papley Role and not needed in the midfield. Time to trade Konstanty coz Cleary can do a better job in front half.
Most likely the fourth player I would drop is Adams.
Ruthless decisions have to be taken to win.Comment

Guys, thanks and congratulations for getting the site up- yes, it does look a bit strange but will perform really well, just like our team!
Our selectors have a tricky week ahead if everyone is fit but I still feel that they can come back for the PF to have a game under their belt as an extra week can only do them good. Of course the Giants will be difficult to beat but we’ll be greatly strengthened with Issac and Tom back. Adams is a tough decision as he does some hard work and yet he’s ineffectual at the same time. So do we keep going with young Cleary? I think I would.Comment

Regarding Cleary, it seems that he has come into the side as a replacement for Wicks, viz; as a hard tackling pressure forward and as was placed in the midfield in the last quarter against Adelaide. He had a superb game against Adelaide and deserved his spot in the team. Do the selectors pick him against GWS taking into consideration the players coming back? Do Adams & Fox loose their spots? An interesting team selection is coming up. Will experience be a factor in selecting the team line up?Comment

Man, it's going to be a brutal call on someone.
Francis obviously goes out for McCartin. Fine.
But then the case for the rest can be made. Cleary has done a stellar job in the pressure forward role and the coaches value it so much. Adams (I'm more bothered by his defensive run than his kicking) is the hard nut you want in a final - think Mitchell for the Pies last year. Fox gives you absolute versatility. And Campbell could do two special things that win you a game and has some flexibility. (And I'm sorry, but Horse ain't dropping Lloyd).
My gut tells me Cleary is next out, not because he's done anything wrong - in fact, he's shown what a future he has - but he's least experienced. Then I suspect Adams stays, or we risk being one true clearance and contested player short and we have occasionally played without that high pressure forward this year. It's not been often, but we have done it a couple of times so Horse is clearly prepared to let it go to get something else.
There's a bit of me dying to have Fox in the 23 because of his capacity to cover multiple roles - and he deserves to be part of it - but the footy gods can be unkind.
