Yes, it was interesting that Cox stressed how poor the defensive effort was. Perhaps that might see a slight tweaking of the game style, with a bit more emphasis on inside combativeness, and maybe a preference for selecting players who are noted for their contested work, like Sheldrick, Adams and Cleary, rather than outside runners. Obviously you need both types of player, but I think there's a reasonable chance that there will be a change of balance.

Hope i've posted this in the correct thread.

Caro on the Agenda Setters last night, suggested Tom Harley would be a perfect fit for Andrew Dillon as his right hand man, which he currently doesn’t have. Tom could then be Andrew Dillon's eventual successor as AFL CEO.

In that case, who do you suggest takes over from Tom?

Longmire would be excellent. Talented and knows Sydney backwards after 20 odd years

I was thinking the same before Roadrunner posed the question! That will depend of course whether Horse has desires to continue his coaching career (with Tassie begging) and importantly, if he has any interest moving into CEO role.

This is all just speculation from Caro in anycase with Tom Harley to the AFL.

It's possible that they are keeping JL on with this in mind. When he arrived at the club in the early 2000s, they were initially keen on him to go into administration rather than head coaching.

Both Tom and JL are passionate about the Swans, so it would be great for Horse to become our next CEO, assuming he would want the role. That said, I think Tom is doing a great job for us as we are a very well run club- long may that continue!

I don't think Harley would leave Swans to go to be number 2 in waiting at AFL. He will stay and gather more experience and kudos.
While we have been talking about Swans coaches on this link, I find it interesting that Cox hasn't recruited another assistant coach to replace Jared McVeigh who has gone to coach VFL side. Cox only has Mark McVeigh as his assistant with Matthews and Buchanan as line coaches. The actual list of coaches have disappeared off Swans website since last season. I for one would like Cox to have another coach to help on match days as too hard to be head coach in year one. Swans must have the leanest coaching group of all AFL teams, some have 6-10 coaches !!!!!!!

Tom Harley will be submitting a proposal to the AFL to move the pre finals bye to the week before the GF.

He will cite teams have lost the advantage finishing in the top 4, making it almost worthless doing so. Stats back this up, showing since 2016 when the bye was first introduced, more teams have gone out in straight sets & teams outside top 4 making/winning GF

In our case last year, we only played 1 game in 28 days & 2 in 35 days v Brisbane who played each week from 5th.

The pre GF bye will allow players concussed in the PF to play in the GF. All the awards shows, including the Brownlow will be presented in the bye week. It is envisaged the AFLW GF will be played in this bye week in the future.

Harley has strong backing from Brisbane, who made similar submission few years ago.

When interviewed on SEN last night by Gérard Healy, Harley shied away answering question whether he would be interested in a 2IC role to Andrew Dillon at the AFL

I would suggest that with JL shifted to an admin role the soft cap prevents appointing another coach.

Does Paddy McCartin currently have a role at the Swans?

I'm not sure? I might have seen him in the early season training footage, which suggested to me that he had some sort of support role? But I can't find anything online to back that up.

Caro on AS last night reported Brendan Gale is targeting Kinnear Beatson for List Manager role with the Tassie Devils and thinks he'll be a great get if he accepts. KB will be part of a List Management team, rather than the List Manager. He is currently our Recruiting Manager (saw him in the rooms after our win last Saturday v North).

Caro also mentioned Brendan Gale was sounding out John Longmire for a coaching director role but that appears to be falling through.
