I think we need more experience in our Ranks on Gameday

I rate Leon but he is more department then coaching, Goodwin would be perfect.

Would Simon be a good choice as senior assistant to Cox if he were interested?

As a Premiership coach, he might rather wait for another senior coaching opportunity.

      Yes.

I'm not convinced Goodwin would be a great addition to us right now. He's a senior coach who probably still wants to be a senior coach. He's experienced, but not really at the level when he could be a good senior mentor to a fairly inexperienced senior coach (as Cox is). He's not an elder statesman. Having watched Melbourne in recent years, he doesn't strike me as a tactical genius, either, so it's not like he has that valuable knowledge to supplement the coaching team.

I do think our coaching panel needs beefing up, but I'd rather they managed to lure one (or two) mid-career experienced assistant coaches who can bring experiences from different clubs, and who are looking for a change of scenery. Or a more experienced type who isn't eyeing off another senior coaching opportunity (ala Don Pyke).

There have also been lots of behavioural queries around Melbourne over the past two or three seasons, and suggestions that Goodwin contributed to them, rather than fixed them.

Surely he'll lick his wounds and count his money for the next twelve months.

Premiership coach, residing in Sydney already getting paid heaps, im sure they are talking to him.

As for his track record, Pyke did a pre season at Adelaide that destroyed the Crows for 4 yrs and we still grabbed him

Sad to hear that Nick Davis is departing the club after being with us in varying roles since 2003

Agreed goswannies - sad news. But probably not unexpected - if he wants to take the next step in terms of coaching, then he probably has to go somewhere else to do it.

Will always be welcome at the club like the Premiership Hero and all round Legend he is. Top bloke, top footballer, and terrific contributor to the success of our club over a very long time now.

Goodwin was asked on 360 tonight whether he'd spoken to GWS this week. He smiled and said he'd spent a few days in Sydney and that he'd be interested in any club looking to build a premiership winning team.

Goodwin! No thanks. As a coach he was insipid. Same monotone excuses week in week out. Doesn't possess a smile muscle. Ask any Melbourne supporter what they think of his pressers? I can't think of a worse person to get the players offside.

Mark Wiiliams being let go at Melbourne. Would he be good a candidate as an offsider to Dean Cox?

He may be gone but he'll NEVER be forgotten! A Swans legend!

Wish him all the best with whatever he decides to do.

                            I would be looking at assistants who just want to be that and have been successful at other clubs. In other words they are at premiership winning clubs now. Either that or REAL Coaches from lower leagues, in other words SANFL, VFL, WAFL like these;

James Allen; Werribee Coach. Has been an assistant at the lower level before tasking over at Werribee. He inherited a very good team from Michael Barlow but did very well with it. Unfortunately for him and Werribee the AFL clubs came sniffing around.

Darren Reeves; This guy has a wonderful record as a coach and mentor. He was coach of Central Districts Academy to start with. Then Reserves Coach and Assistant at Central. He then moved to NT Thunder as Herad coach. Head of Development at North Adelaide for 3 years before becoming coach of Glenelg and coaching them to back to back premierships.

Stewart Edge; Currently Western Bulldogs Reserves Coach. He has been an assistant at GWS in their inception years and as Development Coach at Dogs during the period they won their premiership. Dogs VFL are top.

Cameron Bruce; He has had assistant Roles at Hawks, Carlton and Lions. He is very well respected.

Nigel Lappin; He's been at the Cats since 2008, maybe he needs a change.

Matt Spangher; Has been relatively successful at the dogs as the Forwards Coach. I personally think we need a very good forwards Coach. Spangher fits that. Allen and Reeves do too as they have developed killer forward lines.

Michael Barlow; He coached Werribee to a Grand Final He moved on to North where he is now Head of Development. Could we extract him from North?
