Fabric of our club for so long, who also represented the club so well no matter the circumstances and passionately fighting our cause. Father figure to many players having seen them come through the Academy as kids to adults.

Very sad to see it end this way. Stunned. Seems surreal.

So many questions & possible consequences. Big shoes to fill (no pun intended) as when he took over from Roos. As some have pointed out, hope no serious health issues involved.

Im pretty shattered that he's calling time. He's been enormous
for this club, fantastic manager for the boys.
The Gig obviously comes w relentless
pressure. You must reach a point when its clearly enough.
The big losses at the Grannies must have been so much more
      devastating for him than us.

Right call, probably made it a year early.

Unfortunately this year was all going to be about 1 out of 5 unless this move happened.

I believe he would be more than comfortable leaving forever but it's just a question of if he could be talked into it with some of the crazy offers that will come his way. Tassie in the box seat, the clearest run by far.

Be great if we had Chad sorted in the background and announced that by the weekend

Confirmed now that Longmire will stay in a role with the club - Executive Director – Club Performance.

“As Executive Director – Club Performance, John will be responsible for identifying and then implementing strategies that underpin world’s best practise in high performance on and off the field. He will have a particular focus on maximising the potential of the Basil Sellers Richard Colless Centre as a world leading destination for high performance in sport and business."

Great to see him staying at the club and being involved - I have little doubt he will do a great job in that space, at a really important time for the club off the field. Suspect it is primarily an off the field focused role, but I'm sure he will have a lot of value to add there too.

No need for it to ever happen- Horse is a Legend and has been fantastic for our club, especially the players and staff. Undoubtedly the GF is responsible for his decision and he, as always, puts the club first. A great human being and we will miss him. All the best John- we will always love and respect you!

Yes, pleased that he's sticking around. And they've also announced that Cox has been appointed for a four year term as coach. Which suggests some sort of planned succession and a lot of confidence in him. Rather than say, 'we'll just appoint Dean in the interim, while we search for a long term replacement'.

The article on the website suggests they've know it has been coming since mid 2023 - so I suspect at that point they undertook some form of process to consider options, and landed on Cox - and all that was left in question was whether it would be 2024 or 2025 that he took over.

Now the incentive is for a Grand Final win in 2025 when he is still involved. He deserves to go out on the best possible way.

And the fact that Cox turned down the West Coast offer also points to that.

And I'm now thinking that, Executive Director - Club Performance, might involve John sitting next to Dean during matches and Dean getting to shout in John's ear. Seems sorta fair.

I'll be intrigued how much 'on field' element there will be to that role. I suspect very little. It could simply be a created role to help us get around soft cap related issues (given he was contracted for next year) that doesn't last long and he rides off into the sunset, but I suspect the primary focus will be off field focused.

The best of the situation for Horse, more than deserves another appointment, role sounds good for him as well.

Cox very lucky with Horse and Cameron in the background.
