Agree to a point Wolfie, but there were too many bombs to our talls, who are generally not very good high marks. Is this a coaching problem or our guys just not using their intelligence? Maybe a bit of both I suspect but our talls certainly don’t lead anywhere often enough to get a clear grab inside our 50,

Cox is talking about positional changes. The first one I would make is Tom McCartin back the forward line. When he played there after he first came into the side he showed he could take contested marks and kick goals.

        Our biggest vulnerability is defence
Without Tom Mc, we may as well not show up.
These fellas from the 2s had better step up or we are in trouble.

I suspect they'll be very hesitant to do this, given his history of concussion. No idea whether statistically it stacks up, but certainly a strong perception that there is a greater risk of concussion playing as a KPF than playing as a KPD.

In defense of our current forwards I recall Amartey being interviewed early on in the season when he was being called out by the media for lack of goals and he replied that his role was to bring the ball to the ground for the others to run onto. He made a point of saying that those were the directions of the coaches for him. I remember it well because while I could see the point of him being able to crash the packs etc it seemed to me a waste of his potential.

Then against Port at the end of the season when we had that comprehensive win, it seemed to me as though 'the plan' of having our tall forwards together in a bunch in front of the goals like sticks, was flicked. McDonald was actually leading from the goal square, not just once but several times and was hit on the chest every time. I thought wow, we do have a plan B to try and unsettle the opposition, this is so good. Comes the grand final and we are back to the sticks in the goal square plan! The plan that has the half forwards and mids kicking more goals than the forwards. As I see it this kind of plan does not allow our 2 big men to develop their forward skills, or star as forwards.

You were in the money TBC, here I was thinking tall defenders is our biggest vulnerability.

Would have to mean one of the 3 fwds goes back ?

What was interesting in Cox's talk to the players was that he mentioned "new staff". Who are they? Is there a new Assistant Coach or additional new coaches appointed? There are no coaches at all mentioned on the club website!!!! We were advised that Jared McV was to become the Reserves Coach. So who has taken his place. And is Cox going to appoint a senior assistant coach he wants ?

cox says defence is a focus. and hes thinking about a move fro tmac. backline will be short but quick, not sure who will mark the tall fwds.

Logan has been moved down back at certain stages of the game to shore up the defence. Also McLean has been suggested by a few on here. Moving Tommy forward from time to time to change things and introduce a degree of unpredictability could be a good thing, but I suppose tightening the defence will depend a lot on some of our youngsters stepping up. A really quick backline with adequate intercept cover is an exciting way to go!

It was reported on one of the myriad of footy shows during the week (Caro on the Agenda Setters I think), that the club will officially reconigise Longmire with a lap of honour before our next home game against Port on Easter Sunday (April 20).

Not sure why it wasn't organised before either of the first 2 rounds at home, but glad to see it happening nevertheless.

Just a heads up Horse will be the special guest on The Front Bar tonight, along with his regular weekly spot on AFL360 beforehand.

Horse should also be doing a lap of honour this Sunday as posted above.

I must remember to watch that. I've been bingeing so much on Korean crime dramas lately, that I usually forget that The Front Bar is on and end up watching it on YouTube on Saturday morning.

It was entertaining seeing the lighter side of Horse last night on the FB. Starts at 20 min mark

Glad they acknowledged Horse got us into 5 GFs, even though we only got to win one. We got smashed in 3 of them and 1 other we were shamefully robbed Despite this poor strike rate, making it to the big dance 5 times would be the envy of many AFL coaches.

Hope Horse receives a big reception by the faithful on Sunday.

I was just about to post much the same thing. While occasionally Horse made me chuckle during his coaching career and while I knew that he was popular among players, I was unaware that he's a genuinely funny person. Though I suppose that it's helpful to have Mick Molloy and Lawrence Mooney throwing lines at you.

Arguably the most respected figure in the game.
