John Longmire/Coaching Change?

They also interviewed Andrew Pridham, which was mostly going over what was already covered at yesterday's pressers. However, the question was raised whether Longmire"s new role will be under the soft cap with consideration also given to senior assistant role being filled. Andrew just said he didn't believe it will be an issue without elaborating any further.Comment

Seriously, make sure you're not chopping onions whilst watching this

P.S. Roos has a statue. Thinking whether the naming the new Training HQ after Longmire is a fitting tribute, considering the "Pass The Baton' motto hanging in the facility was his idea.Comment

The most emotional & intense player meeting i've seen recorded at the club. The faces on the players said it all. Good to see Horse's family also present plus Basil Sellers & Peter Weinert. Big day for Horse & all Swans fans. One for the Archives.

Out of interest, I assume it means we have an assistant coaching position to fill.
Happy to be corrected, but I think we now have M McVeigh and Matthews as assistants, J McVeigh as reserves, and I think Buchanan is in a development role.
So 'if' that's right, either someone gets promoted, or we go seeking fresh talent. (And I'm assuming JMcV isn't going to get promoted back, given part of the logic was giving him the opportunity to run his own program as someone seeking senior coaching opportunities himself.)Comment

Many would think the 4th GF loss played a part in Horse's decision, what state of mind are the players in?Comment

Which of Horse's Grand Final losses bothered you the most? For me, the thrashings hurt for a short time but I was quickly able to focus instead on the great seasons that led up to them. However, I seethed for ages after the 2016 GF loss to the Poodles and it still annoys the hell out of me. Just seeing Luke Beveridge's face is enough to bring back the anger.👍 1Comment

All I know is I feel a bit sad.
It was obvious he had three choices at the end of the year - retire, see out last year of contract, or seek out an extension. But it was all contingent on whether or not he felt he had more in the tank, or it had ground him down. Looks like the latter.
I personally love Horse. He's a great footy person and the fact is he's delivered us great success - including a flag.
I get his decision, but I'm still a bit devastated.
I think it was way past time. I'm pretty sure he knew he couldn't get any more out of this group. He had done as much as he could & was out of ideas. He said that 18 months ago he had a quiet word with Harley & Pridham that 2025 would be his last. But after last GF I believe it all caught up with him & the stress became too much. This is what happens. It's a hugely stressful job. No coach is ever safe. Take Norm Smith 5 premierships & they sacked him, all because he & the President didn't get on. We would like to think it is far more professional today. But is it? Take Essendon & Melbourne. Good examples of how it can go wrong. Oh & Dees were the ones who sacked Smith. Nothing much has changed there.
Swans ARE a professional club. They are inclusive & they are in the NOW. What needs to happen now is the boys get on with it & win the next premiership. The goals should be;
1. Fix up the midfield
2. Win first quarters, then win the rest. Finish off with a full sail
3. Blood the players who need to be blooded
4. Get the Forward Set Ups right. The personnel are good but the set ups are all wrong. WE NEED A SPECIALIST FORWARDS COACH. MATTY LLOYD? DERMIE? JOSH KENNEDY?
5. Get hard. Destroy teams who are there to be destroyed. Bludgeon teams who are in the fight
6. BLOOD THE BACKS
7. WIN, WIN, WIN!
That's it really. Not much to askComment

Gerard Healy on SEN last night said he'd be staggered if Horse had a serious fall out with Parker, after going through a tough period getting back into the side from injury & suspension whilst the team was flying. He went on to stay that he would still play Parker ahead of Adams at start of next season had he not gone to North, stating Adams needs to work earn his spot back. They were hoping to speak with Tom Morris but he wasn’t available.

Speaking of Grand Final losses, could I go off on bit of tangent here?

We need a Forwards Coach. Our Forward Set ups don't give our tall forwards a hope in hell. They are all flying against each other. We need to spread the options.Comment

I think the Adam Kennedy in question was the former inaugural Giants player. A bit of a hard nut.
In hindsight, maybe some of those questioning Horse's ongoing capacity weren't completely off base.Comment
