I'm putting it down to the calming influence of Fox. Plus we've been much better in stopping the ball before it gets to our defence.

I felt very confident that something good was going to happen when Dattoli got the ball in space.

Great to get a win, after looking like being blown away in the first quarter. Pretty well everybody contributed.

Cleary and Warner got us going in the second quarter. The defence looked much more secure when Fox arrived in the second quarter. Kirk was solid all day. Mitchell and Bowman provided some dash out of defence. Florent did some nice things, but had a couple of costly turnovers. Green is increasingly influential in general play. Francis did really well providing a marking target. Dattoli and Hanily made North pay when it hit the ground. McNamara did some good things on debut.

Beating North Melbourne is doing my head in. 8 goals in the first quarter and it looked like a training drill for North. Then 5 goals for the rest of the match? Green in the ruck was great and Dattoli, yes now I am a fan,did some seriously classy work. Even Bowman down back looked good. Clearly was our best player.

Thanks for the report. Sounds promising!

My best on ground was Cleary - excellent in close with quick decisions and neat disposal, doesnt make 70m passes but operates within his limitations and works relentlessly. Was frequently opposed to Wardlaw, so there were no easy touches for him.
Bowman was really good in defence, even won a contested 1-on-1, marked well and provided plenty of drive. He looked lost earlier in the year when forward, I wonder how much of that is development as opposed to playing forward in a dysfunctional team?
Lastly Dattoli was classy and rarely wasted the ball, also worked and pressured well up the field.

Should also note that Andrew and especially Snell battled manfully all day - North had three big bodies in Trembath, Maley and Tarrant, so to keep them to 4 goals was a fair effort.

By the way, the debutant, Tom Forrest, was listed as being 189cm, but I suspect that they got the 8 and the 9 mixed up, and he's actually 198cm. In the footage of them singing the song, he's next to the 194cm Snell, and he looks a few centimetres taller than him. I thought he did some good things and wouldn't mind seeing him get a couple more games. It also seems to me, that McNamara might have grown a bit during the season and that he's a little bit taller than his listed 186cm.

Extremely disappointed to wake up to this news. Good statement from Tom, this is a very young man and they make mistakes.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I took the time to watch a replay of the game and in the first quarter Green got absolutely smashed in the ruck. I suspect one of the coaches pulled him aside at quarter time and suggested a change in tactics. Green was very effective from that point on. Hopefully another learning curve in his development. He certainly was the only ruckman we had who could provide a contest.
I agree with the other comments that Fox added stability to the defence which also helped

All our emerging players starting to get back into game time and some out of long term injury recovery phase

Will be interesting to get to the next Sydney game to watch the Ressies
Isn’t interesting the difference a few experienced players make to the development of young players. Earlier in the season due to the obvious injury crisis in the senior team, there simply was no on field leadership, and did this show out. It must have been demoralising for the young players to be getting thrashed every week

Ch 7 news reported.Riak has received a 5 match ban. Which means season over for him, after missing over half the season and only returning last month. Disappointing.

He’ll learn, hopefully, because he’s young. Not an excuse but there’s time. The most fraught and educational part he will experience is sitting in front of the AFLW side, where players are openly gay. Footy clubs are good places and this is a chance for something good to happen.

Rough if you ask me, I know it's a sign of the times but he said a "word", not like he went on a tirade.

The amount of slur that gets said on a footy field and a "word" has landed a kid a 5 game suspension.
