It wasn’t. An idiot threw what looked like a paper fan or footy record at Aliir. It was wrong to do, but didn’t look like anything more than idiot kid who won’t be coming to games any time soon.

That’s good to hear thank you - I mean it was stupid but - you know - security moved him on but not out of the ground as far as I could see

So we had our chances but no luck - the game was very over umpired and sometimes nonsensically so

it was a good fight back - please don’t play Tom forward again! The backline looks a lot better with him in it - and Francis looked calm and effective - wow!

It is funny how we all see the game differently. I rarely doubt the effort of the boys - and it was a big effort in the second half to grind back into it. But I wouldn't call it a 'meritorious effort' either - our basic footy skills continue to hamper us badly, and bad kicking is bad footy, no matter how much effort a team puts in. Seven extra scoring shots (And not a case of a heap being rushed behinds or anything like it is some weeks) and we lost by almost two goals.

As for the umpiring - its the same every week these days. They can't see the bleedingly obvious, but will pull the totally bizarre out of their bottoms at a regular basis. The game is over officiated, the rules are too complex, and there are too many umpires on the field.

To be fair, without knowing what was actually said or done, it could be anything. He might be an idiot that said something awful, or he might have been like a whole lot of us and very frustrated, and perhaps didn't even mean to throw it at all. Easy enough to do, and he hardly 'projected' it - from what was shown on Channel 7 anyway. May be a deserved ban coming, or may all turn out to be a storm in a teacup.

Why not play ladhams and exploit them for having 2 rucks

What's next, don't play a fullback when the other team doesn't have a designated full forward
Drop Heeney if the other team doesn't have a tagger?
Well, we woke up a bit in the last, but too little too late with some more wayward kicking. But at least we had a go, which was totally missing especially in the first half.

So let’s look at some positives: McCartin is No forward, so let’s stop this nonsense. Campbell, Corey, Cleary need to play in the ressies to regain form and confidence. Ollie, less handball and more kicks please. Wilbur, the game consists of 4 quarters. I’m sure there are lots more but I’ll leave it to others. The negatives are reserved for some baffling umpiring but that’s only to be expected.

                Overseas atm, couldn't watch it

Sounds like it was a copy of the Brissy game that we lost all by ourselves with bad execution

It was a footy record that fluttered over the fence. Hardly anything like the 14 year old feral who racially abuse Adam Goodes. It looked like Allir over reacted.

I think it was Port's hard game last week that enabled us to fight back. It still worries me why our skill levels have dropped so much this year? Too many dropped marks, fumbles and then the goal kicking??? We need to forget about finals. Hope we can at least win one game at the SCG. Gws will smack us next week.

The first half was simply awful - the second a little better - but I don’t hold big hopes for us this year - GWS looked very ‘physical’ this week although they lost - I’d expect the same when they play us

the Swans look really lost at the moment

Still makes no sense that we play Grundy and Ladhams when we have Mclean and Amartey available

Lose Amartey and we drop Ladhams ? Wtf ?

Cox really is looking like the only person in the country that thinks Tom Mc is a fwd

Mclean always plays better as a full time fwd

That was pure frustration. Statistics sometimes lie. We supposedly had 156/110 contested possessions!!!!! I find that hard to believe. We led the clearances 46/33 and centre clearances 13/8!!! Our problem with centre clearances is that we get short scrapping kicks or handballs. In the last quarter Grundy got a hitout, Butters read it off his hands. He scooted to the footy, cleared and a goal resulted. Why can't we read the tap. Our forward defensive skills have gone from bad to horrible. Opposing sides just waltz it out of our forward line. The long TV view when the ball goes quickly into our forward line shows us one out against 2 but no one running to the fall of the ball. When the ball goes to the top of our goal square the opposition have a player at the front of the pack, but where is our small forward? Last week the Pies had Hill at the fall of the ball. This is basic stuff that is taught at junior footy.

One more thing, centre bounces. That goal they got at the start of a quarter when the ball went sideways and they goaled, should have been recalled. Just throw the bloody thing up so no team is disadvantaged. It happens every week in every game. Clearly this is a skill that umpires have lost. Get rid of the bounce.

Gold Coast next week, GWS the week after.

Fully agree. The "bounce down" is an unnecessary variable and it's unbelievable that it is still a part of our game. How many sports require an umpire/referee to perform a physical skill as part of the game? Basketball referees need to throw the ball up when there's a jump ball but they stand between the 2 competing players and push the ball upwards ever so slightly.

Respectfully he didn’t overreact. Someone threw something over the fence at him. Players don’t deserve that even if it’s a tissue. It’s their space.
