It just seems like our system is totally broken ! I don’t know what the whole focus on contested footy was on the off season. We are far from any kind of contested footy

It’s actually about the only part of our game working today.

Not going to win much when you can't kick basic chances. 2 x Mclean in first half, 3 x Blakey, 1 each for the Warner Brothers, JJ. Should have been 5 or 6 goals minimum from them.

Our basic skills are utterly woeful however - really look to have gone backwards. Port are okay as a team but that's it, but look world beaters because they can execute the basics of football.

At least Hamling understands how to lead up the ground. If we didn't know Tom had played as a forward as a junior, one could be convinced he has come across from rugby league like Israel Folau, such is his seeming lack of understanding of how to be effective as a tall forward.

Started to look good for a little while, but too many silly mistakes meant that we couldn't put any real scoreboard pressure on Port. Only five goals behind, so I suppose that we're not totally out of it, but we need to do many things better.

Starting to look like a bottom four side. It been awful. The skill level is appalling. Dean Cox might been a one year substitute coach awaiting the Horse return in 2026.

                      Back to three goals.
Francis starting to justify being taken at pick 6.

I hope that wasn’t a racist incident I like football without racism and Swans supporters should be better given the whole Adam thing - security moved the guy to another seat

Umpire Williamson has made a couple of momentum stuffing decisions.

                            What a joke

Why not play ladhams and exploit them for having 2 rucks

What's next, don't play a fullback when the other team doesn't have a designated full forward
Drop Heeney if the other team doesn't have a tagger?

That last call was utterly baffling. Shame they missed the absolute black and white, carbon copy, textbook incorrect disposal 20 seconds before. But we had so many chances in that last quarter to win it - we are a football team that struggles with basic skills at the moment. And while I appreciate a willingness from Cox to try different things (some working out like Francis up forward), we need to give up on some of the dumb ideas that just aren't working - like McCartin as a forward.

We have no body but ourselves to blame however - when you can't execute basic skills, then you won't win many games of footy. Nail just a few of the (in most cases very gettable) shots at goal from:
                              Mclean x3
Campbell x 2 in the last few minutes alone.
                              Blakey x 3
                              Jordan
                              Both Warners

A few others too I'm sure I missed - most very, very gettable. And that's before other elements of the game we are making a meal of at the moment - so many basic skill errors are killing us.

What exactly did we practice in the summer?

A meritorious effort in the end, given the number of outs. Excellent contribution from Francis, some totally bizarre umpiring decisions and poor conversion cost us badly. Keep Tommy at full back, playing him up forward has just messed up his game.
