General footy chat Round 24: the other games.

Whoops, forgot that the round started tonight with Essendon v Carlton. And it seems that Channel 7 have also forgotten it, since it's not being shown on free to air. Perhaps the people most interested in that game, would be list managers, wondering who would be worth poaching?

Probably the highlight of the round, will be what's essentially an elimination final between the Bulldogs and the Dockers.

The good news for anyone playing this week, is they can get punch someone in the jaw, get four weeks, feel bad about it, get their penalty discounted by a week and still play in the grand final. Or at least according to the new AFL precedent.

      It's mind boggling, isn't it.

The whole saga was handled atrociously, wasn't it?

The Pie/Crow game was Saturday night but a final decision on Rankine's punishment wasn't made till yesterday. It was almost as if the AFL waiting for someone to give them good reason to not suspend Rankine for the whole finals series.

So maybe if I could find the former players thread, this should go there but . . . I now know Sam Naismith is a ruck and development coach with Fremantle.

There was a story today that two Freo coaches walked into the Dogs training, watched for a whole half an hour, before being identified and asked to leave. One of them was Sam. How you don't recognise a 206cm fella, I'm not sure, but anyway. Good to know the big fella has landed on his feet.

Suns doing okay to be 10 points in front at quarter time, despite the 11-3 free kick count against them. Seems to be quite a different interpretation of HTB for each side.

Suns currently in front of Collingwood on the live ladder. Unfortunately, I can't see a way for Collingwood to drop out of the eight.

Melbourne in front by 8 points halfway through the last quarter with the Pies being wasteful in front of goal. The wheels have fallen right off Collingwood FC since round 17 with 1 win and 5 losses.

While the Suns aren't playing like a side that will do some damage in the finals, I am finding the 24-9 free kick count against them immensely irritating.

Suns have laid 54 tackles and have just got their first HTB free ten minutes into the final quarter. Meanwhile, Port are back in front, because Georgiades got an off the ball free for falling over.

I actually hope that Hardwick goes ballistic in his press conference. That umpiring was obscene. The Suns laid 60 tackles to 57, but Port got 12 HTB frees to 1. Overall count 33-16. And I think the 50s were lopsided as well.
