Doing well to be in front 49-37 in a free flowing first quarter. Well on top in the clearances, despite the Suns getting more hitouts, largely due to the work of Cootee.

And I think that the Suns had the advantage of the breeze.

        HT 9.2 v 11.5
Scoring has slowed as speed has come out of the game - still very entertaining. I've been impressed with how Green is coping with Witts; he is fighting hard and winning his share of contests. It was noticeable that GC got on a run of clearances when Green was off the ground.

Late goals to Phillipou and Dattoli meant that we marginally won that quarter, even though the Suns perhaps the better of the play. Bice has responded pretty well to his demotion, by running hard and getting plenty of possessions.

Yes, I've liked the follow up work of Green, to get contested possessions and put pressure on the opposition mids.

Nice work by Gibbs to set up that goal.

Handy couple of goals by Gibbs. Umpiring starting to irritate me, though.

An industrious quarter to increase our lead, to what should be a match winning 33 points. Melican has been strong in defence all day. Bowman did some nice rebounding in that quarter. While the decision to switch Gibbs forward paid dividends.

Another excellent all round performance against a team with more AFL listed players (12 v 9). Encouraging performances from all our AFL players, and valuable contributions by a heap of VFL players too - just looks like a well-coached team playing with confidence.
Any of a dozen players were worthy of votes but IMO -
3 votes - Cootee. Game was won in the middle with our clearance domination was headlined by Cootee, with enormous workrate on the spread to keep us moving forward.
2 - Bice. Endless run & carry, great vision and skills to distribute. Looks a cut above at this level.
1 - Dattoli. Playing with so much more confidence than early in the year. Displayed his skills and got in dangerous positions.

I could make a valid case for any of the AFL players, but Bowman in particular played at a high level especially when rebounding out of defence.
Of the VFL players I thought Sutton and Gibbs were very good as was Mellis until he went off, and O'loughlin was quiet early but improved as the game opened up.

                        4 Jesse Dattoli (SYD)

The team for the match against Williamstown, which takes place at Blacktown tomorrow at noon.

                          B: A. Norris (46), P. Snell (41), L. Melican (43)
                          HB: N. Bowman (23), R. Bice (26), J. O'Loughlin (60)
                          C: J. Harrison (65), B. Cootee (25), J. Tidemann (57)
                          HF: J. Phillipou (18), B. Campbell (16), J. Dattoli (9)
                          F: T. Ryan (64), M. Rosas Jnr (10), J. Longmire (56)
                          R: W. Green (45), C. Warner (37), J. Sutton (54)
                          INT: R. Andrew (20), N. Shipley (52), H. Cameron (69), K. Gibbs (70), C. Peters (53)
                          23rd Player: A. Norris (46)
                          EMG: I. Luke (68), K. Harbour (66), O. Clifton (72)

                          IN: R. Andrew, B. Campbell, C. Warner
OUT: M. Mellis (concussion), I. Luke (omitted), K. Harbour (omitted)

Nice to see Campbell and Andrew again, but the useful Mellis is out after picking up a concussion last week. I suspect the team will be highly motivated, with many of them thinking that they're a chance of playing AFL next week.

Sutton has been a really good addition to our VFL list.

Behind 30-19 at quarter time. Largely due to former quality AFL ruckman Preuss and 210cm Mirkov, dominating the hitouts against Green, Ryan and Gibbs. Also some sloppy forward 50 entries, after some classy rebounding, hasn't helped. Campbell has done really well, while fellow returnee, Andrew, has shown some nice signs.
