General footy chat Round 9: the other games.

Interesting start to the round with Fremantle hosting Hawthorn. Both teams should play finals, both teams appear to be threats to our place at the top of the table. Personally, I'll be going for a Fremantle win, as I tend to think that Hawthorn are more of a threat. While Fremantle possibly have more individual talent, I just have the feeling that Hawthorn might come up with the sort of game plan to worry us.

The Friday game between Port and the Bulldogs might be fun, but unfortunately on free to air up here, we'll be watching an injury ridden Brisbane, hand out a thrashing to the not so injury ridden Carlton. Actually, that might also be fun. I'm also looking forward to seeing if Gold Coast can continue their excellent Darwin form, against a St Kilda side that ate sort of used to playing in the air conditioning at Marvel.

Agee with you that Hawthorn are more of a threat to us.

Both are good sides and they've played a very entertaining first quarter. Fast attacking footy - great to watch!

Yes, it was an entertaining quarter. However, the 7 commentators unbridled love for Watson might drive me insane.

I wonder what Gunston is on these days? Wasn't he on the verge of retirement three or four years ago?

The first half was scintillating - the second half is a snooze fest, saved only by the fact that the game is relatively close.

Hmmm. May have gone a bit early on that "snooze fest" jibe!

I literally slept through most of the third quarter, now it’s not really close.

Although that Treacy goal has me vaguely interested again.

Didn't expect Fremantle to come back like that. It was only checking my phone and seeing that Treacy had goaled, that made me turn the TV back on.

Ha, I went to sleep at three quarter time thinking the Hawks had the game under control. Freo really do have burst capacity these days. They’ve been building a great list for a few years now and it’s coming together.

The AFL website has made the same mistake a few times now by claiming that Carlton has lost seven games in a row. This is not true, not yet anyway. Carlton has a 1-7 record, and they have lost six games after beating the Tigers in round 1.

What is true: Carlton have "lost" all eight second halves this year.

Long may it continue! And it's very satisfying to know that we started that off for them !

Will Hayward has kicked Carlton's only 2 goals in the first quarter.

Halfway through the second quarter and Carlton have laid only nine tackles. You'd think that they'd be more desperate than that. I'm not sure if Brisbane are playing all that well, but they're six goals in front.
