General footy chat Round 11: the other games.

Should be a decent game tonight, even if it’s in Launceston, which tends to favour Hawthorn. But they've been dropping points lately, while Adelaide have been regaining form.

Adelaide's injury list is three players, the smallest number of injured players in the competition. Hawthorn last won a game in April, but their injury list is four players (second smallest). Hawthorn usually wins in Launceston, so they should be favoured to win this.

Only two teams have not played at the Launceston ground - Collingwood and Melbourne.

After falling in a heap a couple of weeks ago against Fremantle, it'd be nice if Hawthorn did it again tonight.

A contest between the two bottom teams with one win each isn't usually interesting, but tonight's game between Richmond and Essendon could be an exception. Despite not winning, both teams have played patches of decent football this year. Essendon did so for long enough to beat Melbourne. Richmond's win over West Coast in Perth was not bad either. Richmond's form would be better if nearly half the team wasn't injured.

Both teams will be playing a lot of kids out of necessity, so inexperience will cause some patches of silly football. What matters is that the teams are fairly evenly matched. That should make the game worth watching.

In the first five minutes, there’s been endless turnovers, handballs and kicks to opponents, players from the same side spoiling each others marks … it’s gonna be fork in the eyes stuff

Yep. Patches of silly football. Patches that could last most of the game.

Lots of mistakes and players being caught with the ball but I agree - it's actually surprisingly entertaining so far. Will Scott last the week if Essendon can't beat the Richmond reserves?

No. He knows the axe is coming. He roped in the president and CEO to what’s happening this week magnificently, which means he’s very clear that they’re after him.

Essendon is behind by 16 points, and they have three injuries so far in this game: Durham, Guelfi, McGrath. Richmond have one player injured (Faull).

I'm ambivalent about Richmond but I don't hate them like I hate most Victorian clubs and I'm finding myself barracking for them. They lead by 22 just a few minutes into the 3rd.

I’ll never join the joint but occasionally wonder over for a laugh, and the Essendon bigfooty board is a hoot right now.

I'm not sure if I've ever checked their board. I must do so. A few times this season, I've found the Carlton board after a loss to be quite gratifying.
