I was at the theatre tonight and had a bet with my friend who's a Hawks supporter - because of their recent form I had to give her a 50 point start - thank blooming God we snuck in over the 50 points mark

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Croad's thump to the back of LRT's head in the Hawk goal square. Or Hodge's swinging elbow to Luke Ablett's mouth on the wing that ended up with Noggie taking a spell on the bench for the blood rule. I think these 2 lads, along with Guerra, will be joining Captain Ritchie on the Gold Coast for an early mid-season break.

Haven't looked through the whole thread, was at the game, has anyone mentioned Crawfords brain snap and probable tribunal appearance? He was sitting on top of Tadhg throwing punch after punch. I think everyone at the game saw it.

I was impressed that LRT could stand, let alone continue to play. As someone else has said, he had already received a big knock in the goal square that left him flat out.

They have serious discipline problems at the moment.

I think Alastair Clarkson is in gaga land, or is it just denial?

While the scoreboard did not reflect an even match, statistically, not much separated the teams, according to Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson.

"We beat them at hard ball gets, beat them at clearances. Believe it or not, we had the same scoring shots at three-quarter time," Clarkson said.

"Our inside 50s were similar, our possessions were similar, everything about the game, the two teams were very, very similar except that they were able to convert their opportunities and the opportunities they got they were able to kick easy goals because we made terrible turnovers with the footy."

I'm a bit surprised how many are talking up our performance in this thread.

Up until half way through the 3rd they were smashing us in the clearances, contested possessions. Their skill level was attrocious and ours was excellent and our conversion inside 50 and on goal was very good, that was the difference at 3q time.

It's fantastic to see our skills so good remembering how much of an issue it was 4 odd years ago but this game was an uneven performance at best.

That sort of performance in close will see us smashed by Adel. WC and Collingwood. A bit of work to do there.

I agree with you in the sense that I didn't think the Swans played particularly well. Right from the opening bounce I thought they looked flat and they were missing their intensity at the contest for most of the match. Their skills were nothing like as sharp as two weeks ago against the Tigers.

However, I also think Clarkson is deluding himself. Despite a relative downer in intensity from the Swans, the Hawks never looked in the same league. Many of their possessions were pointless, and even those that weren't, rarely looked incisive or dangerous. The way that the Swans took the ball from defence and, with two or three possessions, took it the length of the ground to create an easy scoring chance should provide the Hawks with some clue about how to play the game.

I reckon the Hawks put in the worst performance against us of any team we've played this season. I think I'd rate the Tigers' effort as better, despite the scoreline.

Agree about our performance. I listened to the first quarter on the radio last night, then was out and came home to see the final score, watched the replay this morning. We were very ordinary IMHO, but that seems to be our general MO when we play poorer teams - drop to their level.

19 goals to 8 without playing too well isn't a bad result. Still, I hope Bolton Craig is around when we play better teams. The lack of his cool, calm play was noticeable.

I hate Hawthorn with a passion. Their supporters over the years have been absolute swines at games. I love seeing them walk out early in the last Q with heads down.

Kick them in the guts when they are down I say. They deserve bucket mouth Jeff.

I found the Hawthorn supporters we were sitting near to be quite decent.

Certainly nothing like the Richmond supporters of the other week.

Really depends on who you happen to strike. There are all sorts for each club.

Apparently Tadgh laughed at him and told him he needed to find a new hairdresser.

Had an obnoxious Hawthorn supporter behind me (and there werent many in the Ponsford Stand) who cheered everytime a Swans player appeared to get hurt. He was so obnoxious when LRT got hit that I understood why some people get into fights at the footy. In Sydney I rarely have to deal with opposition supporters. But I agree NMW that sometimes you can just be unlucky and should be careful not to let one person cloud your opinion of an entire club. Except Port. And St Kilda. They're not isolated incidences.

BTW, the MCG is magnificent. I had a padded seat on the first tier and it was general admission ie $19.70!! Possibly the best stadium in the world.
