I disable Flash not just to remove annoying ad banners. I do it to close the Flash security hole in a standard PC configuration. Flash is an executable file format, and allowing untrusted arbitrary executables to run on your computer is asking for trouble. If you've ever spent nine hours cleaning more than 10,000 instances of spyware, malware and virus infestations off someone's computer, you would be wary too of browser settings that allow arbitrary executable content to run on a computer.Originally posted by Sanecow
The only reason people write Flash ad banners in Flash and not SVG is because almost everyone has a Flash plugin and nobody gives a tinker's cuss about SVG. So why would anyone deliver anything in SVG if Flash has more market penetration? A decision like that could cost someone their job.
If SVG were popular, there would be ad banners in SVG so you would then boycott SVG too.
As for writing Flash ads, why not just use static JPEGs? Some Flash ads I've seen fill the screen and flicker quickly. Such animation can cause fits in susceptible people. Getting sued for intentionally harming other people can also cost someone their job.
I plan to look at the site tonight on another computer. Nobody here's screaming about obnoxious Flash and malware and viruses infecting their computers from this site so it must be a safe site to view.
