That certainly seemed to be a major difference between the Swans of 2005 and the Swans prior to that.

This year the Swans have started their run to finals in the same round as last year => 15.

They look like they're in the same form. Let's hope so.

Geelong have been revved up a bit this week thanks to Robbie Walls and co.. They have been damned in the Melbourne press. This could work either way. So could the fact that they are now only a remote chance of playing in the finals. It could either completely take away their motivation to win or release the shackles so they can play with more freedom. And they certainly have incentive to knock off the Swans.

Geelong are certainly a very good chance to win this game, given they have a real home advantage at Kardinia. But I think they'll have to play very well to win.

In years past, the Swans were almost certainties to drop the odd game late in the year even when in good form, not because they were outplayed but just because their minds weren't set properly. I don't think they will lower their guard at all, although if they don't improve goal kicking accuracy - still a bit of a weakness - it could be costly.

It's excellent. However, it's mainly because we still lock down games. We need to kick more goals.

The Cats have dropped their bundle since that 54point lead they had then lost to the WC back in round ??.

I really hope we just drive that nail into their coffin this week.

The feminine side of me is starting to fell sorry for those poor Vic teams! ( Slap.Slap,Slap.........Snap out of it man!! Your a "Blood" for gods sake.).

They won 6 of their next 8 after that!

They have an old Swans disease. Dropping games they should be winning - Hawthorn, Richmond and WC at home, and Kangaroos at Manuka. Plus two losses by a goal or less.

Bomber Thompson's 3 plans to stop Goodes:
                    1. Ling
                    2. Kalashnikov
                    3. Release a bear onto the ground. (Many of them can outrun even the fastest human, and even Goodesie would struggle to keep his arms free while being tackled by one.)

Geelong actually is a danger game if the increasingly flaky Cats turn up with their heads on (our limited exposure to the Oval being one negative); but I was very pleased to hear that their forward setup let them down against St Kilda. While statistically we might have only the 2nd-best defence in the league, on current form we have the best (i.e. we haven't let anyone kick 25 goals on us in the last few weeks, and last week we gave up 13 scoring shots to Adelaide's 30).

If an opposition forward line isn't on song, then unless their midfielders run absolutely rampant, our defence should stay tight enough to ensure we get over the line. That's the theory, anyway.

Newsflash. This is very heartening. As soon as any organisation starts talking about formal reviews/restructures/reordering the way it does business etc, you know that it's lost its way. For a football club to announce such a review while they're still playing the goddamn season and their destiny remains in their own hands (if Geelong were to win their final 3 games, provided at least one of them was a handsome win, I can pretty much assure you that they would make the 8) is just surreal.

If I were a Cats fan, I'd rather see them just sack the coach, than announce this. At least installing an interim coach historically significantly improves the team's chances of winning the weekend's game.

And it's pretty sound, although the danger remains as to whether we can kick enough goals to win.

Yep I'll be heading down for the game, I don't know why i choose to go down but I guess I haven't been down to Skilled before & plus I wanna see us give them a smack around the ear.

I'm just lucky enough that I'm sitting with the cheersquad, not in bay surrounded by ferals!

Yep,i'm heading down too.I'm going to get there when gates open to get good GA seats.
I actually don't mind it down there, its the old suburban ground feel about it(especially seeing as though i have been standing room last couple of times)where you can (i think u still can)get beer in cans not plastic cups.
Getting down there that early i guess i have plenty of time to find out and drink a few.Is that end(Gary Ablett Tce)the end the swans cheersquad will be at? If so you could have a meet up there and a drink or three while at least there is a reserves game going on.
