lol. I'm on a complete loser trying to say he's not getting leather poisoning. But I never said he wasn't in the thick of it, or a worthy Brownlow contender - sorta why I mentioned him in the first place.

If you cast your mind back Cresswell topped half a dozen stats every year playing a similar game. And how many Brownlow votes did he get?

I guess it comes down to what constitutes a low possession count over at the Bullies these days. It's hard not to get 20 possessions with the Bulldogs gameplan. I've seen him walk off the park with 25 disposals and not even be in the top 3.

Daniel Cross - who I'm sure no one rates a chance this year - has almost identical stats.

Although he definitely deserves to be up there in the Brownlow consideration - and we won't go into the merits of whether 371 handballs skews his disposal ranking somewhat - he's still playing alongside Brad Johnson, whose inside 50's, goals, contested possessions and match turning antics etc at the pointy end of the attack make him far more noticeable.

How many times this year has he garnered 20+ possessions while the story on mon was Griffen, Cooney, Eagleton, Grant or the like? Every week?

It's the sad story of his wonderful career. When you never kick the ball and rarely turn up in the forward 50 it's harder to get noticed. And on historical grounds I wouldn't be putting my hard earned on him, but feel free.

Whilst I agree with you in that I won't be putting any money on him, I think you are being a bit harsh on a bloke who finishes the brownlow in the top four in the last 2 years. Using your logic, he should never have got near it.

This year the 'Dogs are going to win more games than they have for a while, so the opportunity for him to poll higher is certainly there. He is not without a chance, but my money is on one A.Goodes.

If Goodes deosn't win it, I couldn't be happier if Scotty West took it out. I'm not the one being harsh on him - it's the umps that miss the point re: his weekly contributions. Although it seems he's trending in the right direction, so fingers crossed, hey?

Um...so if stats are not a good indicator why should his mountain of possessions mean much for his Brownlow charge? Surely your whole point should have been that stats are key to getting the medal? Of course history shows they're clearly not when it comes to West unfortunately.

Yet Johnson hasn't traditionally polled as well. I'd like to see either West or Johnson win it.

The doggies good season is thus a two edged sword. Many more Bulldogs players - especially the matchwinners like Johnson - will poll in games this year lessening West's chances (potentially).

Unfortunately West, like Johnson to a lesser extent, has been ignored for years. Both of them struggled to make Sheahan's top 50.

You can't say he "never kick[s] the ball" as he has 11 per game!!

I certainly can. 11 kicks a game doesn't even put him close to the top 50 for that stat. And when you consider that those kicks are almost exclusively short kicks, and that he isn't close to the top 50 players for inside 50's (which often goes hand in hand with the long kick stat) I'd say deeming him someone who rarely kicks is about bang on.

There is a thread on BigFooty about Goodes being overrated.

Because I am so biased initally it flabbergasted me but I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion.

It even prompted me to reply..in a fairly priggish way I must admit. So there are a lot of people out there who don't think he is any good let alone Brownlow material.

I would encourage this way of thinking so that others underestimate him.......I know better.(It's a bit like living in Tassie..you keep reinforcing how cold it is and telling people they wouldn't like it here,so that developers don't come and take my little bit of beach paradise.)

Funny how people view a game. My mob and heaps of people around us thought that Goodes was absolutely outstanding, a standout. Yet the commentators merely gave him the best for us, most likely because we lost, but that seems to be the penchant of the media in recent years. You must be in the winning team.

I have seen games where we just get up to win and all 3 BOG are ours. Yet clearly someone from another team had to be in the top 3. If we had lost there is no way we would have had the top 3.

In almost every game Goodes has a very good last Q hence is fresh in the umpires minds, even though they discuss the best players at every break.

So another poster says at best a 1 voter. Many times we see in Brownlow voting an outstanding player get the 3 because he is a standout in a game. Goodes shone or should have been noticed because of his brilliant dashes from defence, his ability to get out of traffic, work ethic, getting to the contest and constant running up and down the ground.

I for one thought it was one of his very best games simply because seemingly everytime a red and white jumper emerged it was him. He was everywhere and his 27 posessions meant something, except for his deliberate OOB.

I would give him only 1 vote or at most 2 votes. He didn't have the same impact as normal; he was bit more rushed and spent a lot of time running off half back.

Didn't see it that way. He worked harder than usual for mine because he and Luke Ablett had to make up for about 15 players who went like dogs.
