Yes hes been good, but I don't class him as irreplaceble as Jolly, Hall and a few others here have been argued for.

      Okay MMG, you got me.
Where are you getting these nicknames from?

          Hall is the obvious one.

The other is LRT. He is our key big defender and is essential to restricting the oppositions key forward. He is also one of the very few players that we don't have a replacement for.

when we had a similar discussion last year, the considered opinion was BBBH and Leo! How times have changed perhaps?

If Freo and WCE are our real threats for the flag, then Leo's role might be diminished (given the nature of their respective forward structures) but if the Pies and the Saints are our threat, Leo surely still has a role to play.

If we go with the "western" favourites scenario, then our midfield is likely to be the key - Kirk, Bolton & Goodes in particular. Needless to say, if it's Torture vs Cox or Sandilands then the midfield won't make much difference at all, so certainly Jolly is also critical to our chances.

I would suggest that leo is more useful against the smaller forward lines, or teams without a dominant forward...

He seems to get smashed whenever he plays on a big name.

So far this thread provides some justification for my attitude towards Kirk as a player.

Goodes. I know Hall and Jolly are important but I'd nominate Kennelly as the most important after Goodes. Kennelly's value in running lines/motivation/inspiration etc. was missing in those early games he was out. His value goes well beyond his stats.

Goodes though is on another plane. Irreplaceable.

He takes the pressure off Micky, Davis, O'Keefe etc.
If he takes the pressure of those guys and takes 2/3 players. That should leave Micky,Davo,Rok ..etc etc,to take the easy mark into the F50,but the other players keep on kicking it to Hally when he's under way to much pressure.Kick it to a easy option.

IMHO the most important players are in no order.......

Yeah you're right. I have never rated him but it seemed like we really missed him on the weekend with so many stopages. Somene just to slap it clear of the back of 30 every now and then. We can do without him, though.

Problem there is that the right foot is Ablett's preferred kicking foot. Kirk and Buchanan are both left footers (could be Catholics too) so I will watch Ablett next time on his left to see if he kicks 15m longer.

On who we would miss the most I will go with Kirk. He is the quiet leader out there who beholds the bloods spirit and uncannily rises to the occasion when the chips are down. Finds the hard ball and space more often than people give him credit for.

I would have agreed last year, but not really this year.
